What does it take to get a vehicle?

I put a deposit on a prestige GV80 six weeks ago. Dealer showed me the window sticker and it was exactly what I wanted. I touched base today because the car should be here in a week and the sales guy says - sorry, it’s been delayed. Now it’s not coming until early November. I’m frustrated and tired of waiting. It doesn’t look like there are many left on cars.com or cargurus. If the delay is from the chip shortage, how much longer are they projecting? And how the heck do I get the car I want?

Good question. Ive been waiting for a truck to come around that isnt asking for a premium with all the options i want for over 6 months now.

The chip shortage is expected to last well in to 2022 and potentially 2023 now for a lot of manufacturers. Ford for example isnt expecting supply to return to normal till 2023/2024

Was the VIN on there? I have to wonder if you car came in already and someone was willing to pay a lot more so now you get the next one in November. If they were going to see it in a week it may have been on the water or even in port.

Yes, he sent me the window sticker with the VIN/AON and showed me the screenshot with the MA number, my name and delivery date. There were at least 15-20 people above me and below me on the screenshot with the same delivery dates which I thought was strange. I dont know of any dealer who is getting that many vehicles at once.

On august 27th i put down payment on gv80 2.5 prestige,blue-dune,awd, eta was the 29 th of September,on the 8th of September was told eta on the 15th.I’m in DFW, ordered from genesis of Wichata,Doug called me today with great news …gv80 left dallas hub and arrived in Wichata, sadly it sat in dallas 9 days, dealer said shortage of employees cause delay in dallas, still very happy as looks like next week my GV80 will ship to my home in DFW. A little over 30 days so IM HAPPY AND LUCKY. BTW Genesis of Wichata charges msrp for all gv80s see Doug

There is a really good chance your vehicle is sitting on a cargo ship off the coast of LA waiting for a chance to unload. You can thank California’s ridiculous Corona lockdown laws for that one. They are voluntarily running their shipping crane capacity at less than 50% was what I had heard and it has the whole nation in a stranglehold for shipping and goods with delays up to 2-3 months for unloading.

Count yourself lucky. I originally ordered a Ford Mach E GT before finding the GV70 and pretty much all Mach E's are about a 6 month wait.

My wife is looking at a Volvo and it's a minimum 3 month wait on an order, probably longer.

Sorry but the way things are you have to be patient on an online order, hope you find one at a dealer that you want that isn't marked up, or find one at a dealer that is marked up. Those are your options right now.

I found one in Florida and had it shipped. After reading the experiences on this forum, I knew I would have to find one actually in stock. Once I did, I snagged it.
