what does plugging in to USB do?

I used to think I had to plug into the USB port to listen to podcasts but discovered that if i don't and press the media button. it will play podcasts from bluetooth. In the past, plugging into the USB caused problems such as the phone not workng throught bluetooth. Someone said you should not plug in the i phone until the system has finished booting up.

Anyway, outside of faster charging, is there any other value of plugging in through the USB port?

That depends on what you are plugging in. I have lots of music on a USB stick.

The sound quality is usually slightly better on a wired connection.

The only other reason I can think of to connect by USB would be for Apple CarPlay (in my case, Android Auto)
