Thinking of upgrading my exhaust, what's the best route? Iven watched a few videos of the 5.0 w muffler delete but wasn't to impressed w the sound. Maybe Cat-less? any suggestions

Stock. Gave up on finding a droneless exhaust.
Magnaflow catback was ok but still gave me a headache.

I agree that the MagnaFlow had too much drone, this is whey I modified my MagnaFlow exhaust to remidy that by changing out the OEM H pipe with a MagnaFlow X pipe muffler. The X pipe muffler got rid of nearly all the drone, but also made the exhaust very quiet and wasn't so exciting on how the sounds it made.

A few years ago I installed the Borla Catback exhaust and I am very pleased with the results. The Borla sounds amazing compared to the MagnaFlow and there is very little drone. I should note that the Borla is on the aggressive side for sound output and this took a few weeks for me to get used to. I then fell in love with the exhaust - my Genesis is not a daily driver for me though.

The Borla is probably the key reason that I still own my '09 because every time I hit the gas above normal throttle input I get a big smile on my face😁

Interesting, I always thought the Borla CB had a lot of drone, even more than the Magnaflow.

You can try Kinney's muffler shop he is in Texas he has a website. Go to You Tube and there is a video of his system on a 5.0 rspec looks just like mine same color. I talked to him he can make it sound the way you want it to. Sounded quite inside but good outside he can change the length of the mufflers it says it adds 18 horse power. I live in Kansas and I am thinking about doing it to mine.

secondary cat delete to x pipe to dual 14" resonators out to dynomax mufflers in 2.5" ss. i bought all the components and had them welded up. no drone for me. its also not super loud. i may add cutouts.

I just removed the mufflers at the bumper. It sounds nothing like it does in videos. It isn't very loud but it is deep and throaty and it growls at you when you first start it. I unbolted mine at the collector by rearend to listen to it idle and then drove it a short distance. When I got home I immediately bolted it back up and broke out the sawzall. I cut the exhaust off 15" from the collector so it would still have the stock exhaust hangers holding it up. There are a couple of hangers above the mufflers too but you can just slide the rubber off with a screw driver.

Just curious how loud are you looking at your exhaust being? I went with a resonator delete and an X-pipe, along with Flowmaster 40s. It gives it a nice rumble without being too crazy and no drone. If you wanted louder, you could always go with the Super 44s. I have those on my GTO and they are really nice for that car. Not sure I'd want them on the Genny though. I have vids of my exhaust here and on YouTube.

I just bought two of the Paradox signature mufflers in the Elite stainless variant after looking at forum posts and video reviews of various muffler options. I'm looking around for exhaust tips and once the weather clears I'm taking it to a local exhaust shop for the rear muffler + tips transplant. Fingers crossed but I've heard nothing but good about these mufflers in terms of sound and minimal drone. It's also a small business so I wanted to throw some $$$ their way.

Thanks for the information on the mufflers I think I will go that route just ordered a 2 1/2" universal stainless steel x-pipe to replace the resonator.

Polar vortex delayed arrival of the Paradox mufflers but I hope to decide on tips and get the mufflers installed in the near future. I was leaning towards keeping the decorative stock tips on the 3.8 but I really don't like the way the trapezoid shape drips and collects the over rich mixture exhaust soot. Some weld on dual tips may be a bit better at just looking dirty instead of looking like it's crying tears of exhaust soot over time.

Pics of the Paradox design which is supposed to minimize drone and word of mouth on these mufflers is very good. Fingers crossed.

My only nearby exhaust shop option really phoned it in on the Paradox muffler install. Let's just say that as soon as they handed the car back to me closing time on a Thursday and they aren't open Friday-Sunday had me wishing I never did a muffler swap. Fast forward to today after I've been undoing what the exhaust shop did in terms of pipe/routing to mufflers + getting some real exhaust tips, I'm currently very happy with the Paradox mufflers but they do need to be installed with as much clearance as possible to avoid unwanted exhaust noise/vibration (cruise drone) in the cabin. It's going to take a while for me to get the stainless mandrel bends etc. to get the exhaust looking more presentable but the link below is a cold start and a few rev blips so anyone interested in Paradox mufflers can get an example of how they sound on the Genesis sedan 3.8 V6 with the rest of the upstream stock exhaust intact.

Really itching to try the MagnaFlow catback again. This time however to reduce/eliminate drone I'm either going to replace the resonators with bigger ones or add 2 heimholz resonators somewhere I can fit them. Really miss the exhaust note from the MagnaFlows just not the drone.

Drone always comes with making your exhaust meaner just grow a pair and deal with it.

I was thinking about doing a secondary cat delete and also having the resonators removed but I’m not sure if it’ll cause too much drone. I’ve even been thinking about straight piping it all the way after the primary cats. What do you think?

Like mentioned I would just keep it stock. The genesis sedan is too nice of a car to drone around town in. However, if I did not care about droning I would just use an X-pipe in place of the twin stock resonators and maybe twin small straight-thru mufflers at the rear.:)

The sound would be aggressive especially while revving in the top end similar to a 5.0 Mustang that run similar setups I believe. Cool on a 5.0 Mustang, but weird as hell on a large four door luxury car.:)

I remember hearing an older Lexus LS460 with an custom exhaust. Sounded great going down the road until you saw the stock looking Lexus cruiser the sound was coming from.:ROFLMAO:

Looks nice!
Could you do a short video of exhaust sound from rear of car?

@cynicaldiogenes

How are you liking the Paradox mufflers?
How's the drone at cruising speeds?

I’m in the opinion of motorized cutouts. Then you can be quiet as a church mouse, or press a button and surprise hemi owners.
