  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Is he banned? Or ?

I know he comes off a bit aggressive and maybe a little crazy sometimes. But he has a ton of knowledge on these cars!

Status says Banned. Last post was 7/8.

Looks like he got into a shouting match with the moderator: http://genesisowners.com/hyundai-genesis-forum/showpost.php?p=185256&postcount=67

Ouch!!

It honestly scares the shit out of me that people like him actually walk around and exist in the same reality as me.

I agree he is strange. But I did learn some good things from him regarding the cars. Anyway. Just wondering is all.

I guess on many of these forums I have come across some crazy azz people. So he did seem almost normal to me. Lol.

This forum is pretty tame compared to a Sonata '06+ forum that I was active in for a few years. DRS had a way with words, although I had brief, but perfectly rational discussions with him on a few topics.

It's a shame because I actually liked him. We had our differences but it was his lack of respect that sent him out the door. I hate banning people...

He was completely out of line. He was bat shit crazy in a couple of his earlier threads. Almost enough to make me not come back to this forum, and I am sure he has turned others off from coming back to the forum.

I like him too, his sense of humor (:D)
So, is this a perma-ban or more like "time out"?

btw. some of you needs to relax a little bit more, this is the internet, don't take it so seriously....you'll live longer ;)

It may be the internet but we still don't have to sit on our hands and let someone say ridiculous stuff on a forum just because they are anonymous.

Well, why do you care so much about what he posted? just ignore it, lol

He actually was right when he said to you: "You are so easy to set off..." (no offense from me)

He had a major chip on his shoulder. And if it weren't for complaints from several people I'd have probably ignored his disrespectfulness toward me. I don't demand that people respect me as a rule because this community isn't about me. But if multiple people are going to stop coming here because of one person - that one person needs to shape up or ship out. It would be another story if the people leaving were "wrong" in some fashion or another. Again, I would rather he BE here and simply be nice but it became apparent that that was not possible.

I rarely ban anyone but when I do - it's normally permanent. And I always give people multiple chances as I'm very forgiving and I NEVER hold a grudge. If he ever really wanted to come back I'd give him another chance but I really do expect people to "take it easy" with attitudes and try their best to be as friendly as possible.

I do ask for people to have "thick skin" in this community but I also don't expect people to be comfortable with disrespect.

I think it's hard for you to relate because of your age and perspective. He came out guns blazing in a thread attempting to categorize every single person under the age of 30 as some dick-less hippie liberal trying to take away his precious V8. He made several slights against me, categorically, that really peeved me. I'll admit that I got a little personal with some of responses too, which wasn't right.

I'm actually really not easy to set off (my childhood friends call me Keanu if that gives you any indication), but I do get passionate when I see willful ignorance displayed by someone. I'm the same way in real life - quiet and reserved until I see that combination of ignorance/arrogance displayed. That guy was a volatile bigot that did more harm than good in this forum.

Go read some of his posts- he accused a guy with the handle "Heisenberg" of being a racist Jew. He was 100% convinced of several outlandish global conspiracies and didn't hesitate to insert them into totally irrelevant conversations while negatively typecasting entire groups of people.

By the way, I was not one of those that personally complained to the Admin in a PM. I was not willing to throw him under the bus in that manner, but at the same time I wasn't going to sit by idly while he said some of the backwards things he did. Clearly, other people were more offended than I was if they were willing to contact the admin and threaten to leave if something wasn't done. I was just more outspoken towards the source than others.

I pretty much stay out of most topics on here, hell I wasn't even aware of this or the things that went down in the race topic, but when I read this topic I was very curious because I had only seen the things he said that were more technical in nature.

I am not one to worry over much about what a person chooses to drive (many times that choice is made out of necessity and money rather then personal preference) I also don't mind what someone does with their own car even if I dont like the direction. its their car if they make it an eyesore I dont have to look at it.
And that fairly well sums up my attitude on forums if I don't like the posts they have I ignore the post, I have, as zielritter states, been caught up in crap I should have known better and should have ignored but usually its not on a car forum, politics now... that can be brutal.

Guys. Sorry I brought this up. Didn't realize he was perceived so poorly by so many people. I had a little disagreement with him - as he seemed to claim his Genesis didn't have a speed limiter and I am quite sure it does. But otherwise I guess I didn't see much of the crazy posts which people are referring to now and I'm seeing only now. I just wondering because he seemed to be in here everyday and I did learn a few things from him. Why I asked. But I didn't mean to instigate any ill will.

My grandmother used to tell me "half the world is crazy and the other half just don't know they are..." And I have learned over the years that some of those crazy people are way way further afield than the rest of us. Lol.

Like everyone - he had his high points and low points. Just the low points were showing up more often than they should have.

Anonymous or not, I find it an odd double standard that someone is criticized so personally and bitterly in a public thread but cannot even respond, the excuse being they made challenging comments. You're certainly not treating "DRS" as an anon account, but as a person. I've tried sending a PM to this person to say I enjoyed their comments and POV, that I never expected to agree with every freakin' sentence on a forum, that I hoped the situation would be resolved and they would be back...but even PMs are apparently blocked.

Many of us are car people, and cars bring out opinions and junk talk, but sometimes also great conversation, discovery, and friendship. This forum is unique because it has a more thoughtful group of members who, more often than not, discuss topics intelligently, rather than flaming with no content. So, I must have missed the part of this drama about why PM warnings, and after that, a quiet forum ban, wouldn't have worked wonders. I don't mean to criticize HG or OFG, because running an opinion/discussion-based site is not easy, and I do not know the whole story in this case.

Yet, given the nature of this site, I'm just not sure why a few "crazy" comments - as defined by other anons with nothing more than opinions themselves - justifies a such a gutless pile-on in a public thread. I'm actually ashamed to be posting in this thread myself, except that it might possibly make a difference. If we all had the same POV, this would either be a Hyundai commercial or a basher's sanctuary. If crazyish or disagreeable comments are the criteria, very few members here would be left standing
