Are yours or is this a British spec?

British. Evidently, Hyundai fit as standard a Thatcham category 2 immobiliser or category 1 alarms to nearly all new cars built for the UK market.

Probably done by importer, rather than in Korea.

Just for reference:

Thatcham refers to "Thatcham Research", the British automotive insurer's research center. They perform tests , i.e. crash tests and do product assessment and certification - apparently including car alarm systems.

Factory car alarm wasn't good enough, eh?

So does anyone know what the mysterious servo sound is? When I shut off the engine and open the door immediately I hear what sounds like a geared electric motor run for about a second. It sounds like it comes from the rear. It's quiet so the only time I can hear it is in my garage.

Could be rear calipers when Electronic Parking Brake is engaged.

to me the noise sounds like a fuel pump, but i don't think that's what it really is.

The sound is the evap purge solenoid. It will cycle again about 30-45 minutes after being shut off.

Thanks folks. I think srobak is right, since i don't use the parking brake and I have the sig package only. Fuel pumps only run when the engine is running. I guess I should have been more clear when posting the question. Sorry.

Turns out that this button thingy is in fact a control for the alarm system. It is fitted before the car is sold by Hyundai, but looks like another company does the fitting. You can press the little button to set various things.
So those of you who said it was after market were sort of correct.

BTW, I hear the servo thingy as well when I first open the door after switching the engine off.

Srobak is right about the servo thing. I was curious, so after fueling up the car, i drove straight home, and voilà, no sound.
