  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

I took my 09 Gennie 4.6 for an oil change at the dealer. The service manager recommended fuel injector service. The Gennie has 72K miles. I was told that this type of service is not necessary because modern fuels have detergents that keep things clean. The car is responsive and I notice no lag. What do you think?

Unless you're having issues I think it a total waste of money. When we sold our Honda Accord (with almost 170,000 miles) it was running great-never had any injector issues or cleaning other than occasional Techron treatment. I just added Techron to gas about every 20,000 miles. Of course, that may have never been necessary.

I also add techron at every oil change.

Not needed if you're using top tier gasoline. Probably not even needed if you're not.

A good followup question for his recommendation would be something like: "Did you inspect the injectors? May I see what you found upon your inspection?" Also may ask: "What method do you use to clean them? Do you remove the injectors to perform this service?"

Just thoughts along those lines should answer whether it's needed or not. I would imagine the person would kinda' stumble trying to answer..... or maybe not, perhaps they did actually "inspect" them and could show you what an injector looks like that needs cleaning!

There are already several threads on this, including some recent ones. Just to be on the safe side, get some Chevron Techron or Chevron Fuel Injector Cleaner at an auto parts or discount store, and add to gas tank as directed. This will be far cheaper than having the dealer do the exact same thing. Even though one can make the argument that it may not be necessary, the cost is minimal if you do it yourself. The Hyundai labeled fuel injector cleaner is made by Chevron for Hyundai (read the label and compare the bottles).
