  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

What is your True MPG

I kind of thought you all would be getting a little more than 19.7 mpg.. Thats what I'm getting in my Honda Pilot... I think it also may help if most of you say what version of the car you have as well.. V6 etc...

Look below the members' profile and it displays the Genesis model, i.e. 3.8, 4.6, or 5.0L

for being 375hp to 429 hp V8 hauling a couple tons around, I'd say that's pretty good.

When I am on the HWY, I get excellent gas mileage; 24 - 25.2 mpg, however, the Miami traffic is so brutal; stop and go, idling in traffic, and many times needing the "hit the gas,"that it completely deflates the Hwy miles. Also, I like to have fun driving the car. Having said that, I think 19.7 avg isn't too bad for a V8. There is no doubt that being conscientious of your driving, regardless of where you are driving, can help increase your gas mileage.

Add On. There has been discussion of which fuel is better, regular or premium. For what it is worth, I switched from premium (93 octane) to regular (87) for about a month when gas prices hit their high. The last two tanks of gas I have used have been premium, and I definitely saw a difference in increased gas mileage on that last tank. I did not notice as much of a power boost when going back to premium fuel as I did with the benefit of increased gas mileage.

2012 3,8 Tech package

Mixed 23 mpg and highway with Cruise 30 -33 mpg with eco on for both.

Car is great can't say enough good things about it

25-26mpg highway (not stop and go, constant driving)
19-20mpg Running around town
15-16mpg for Happy Fun Time driving

Im really happy with the MPG which was advertised as 25mpg highway and I consistently get that.

FYI inthe first 6000 miles in my 2012 3.8 I have averaged 25.4mpg. 90% expressway, cruise set to 75

The wife mostly does the driving, which is good for the mileage. I have been keeping record of all gas purchases since June 2011 in fueleconomy.gov: average 21 mpg with typically 80% City and 20% HWY. It is interesting to see the graph slowly edging up from 18 mpg in the beginning to 21 mpg now; I guess the engine is breaking in.

Yeah, it looks like you are having fun with the R Spec!!!

2012 - 3.8. I live in a rural area. About 6 miles, 2 stops and a dozen or so turns to get to work. MPG is consistently around 19.5. No hard starts or stops.

The computer says MPG is around 21.2. I calculate it myself every time I fill up. It's 19.5. The computer on my car is wrong.

I'd be interested in hearing if anyone else calculates different MPG than what the computer reports.

Got myself a used 2011 Genesis 4.6 last month. First couple tanks, I realized that my actual MPG is about 2.0 less than computer MPG.
(15.3mpg all city driving vs 17.1 computer mpg)
I had a Kia before and computer was perfect every fill-up. I wonder why it is not accurate.

For the last 8,696 miles have averaged 25.17 MPG

I find it curious that people are saying the car's computer is "optimistic" implying that gas pumps are accurate. I wonder?
Whatever, the major benefit of your car's computer readout is it consistency for comparison purposes, whether accurate or not.
I think trying to compare one's in-town gas mileage figures can be frustrating simply because traffic conditions vary so much.
I drive a certain interstate route frequently. It is almost flat. Traffic is light enough to maintain a steady speed. The distance is about 40 miles that I test over. Wind and rain will vary gas mileage measurably.
What I have found in three V8 Genesis is that gas mileage seems to increase over time, reaching full stride after 10 K miles.
Presently, my RSpec at 21K miles at 65 mph on my test strip is always above 30 mpg, and mostly about 31 mpg.
At 70 mph. mileage drops to 29 mpg.

At 1300 miles, it's a bit early to make declarations. I live in a rural but hilly area.(Called the Hill Country of Texas) My average mileage (all driving) is 24.77mpg, best was only trip- to Dallas (250 miles) averaging 32.43 at 65. I use the Apple app "Road Trip" for all mileage. The car computer shows about 2 mpg more!

I traded in a 2011 Sonata I owned 26 months with 26,000 miles. Overall on it was 29.91. The difference in measured vs calculated was also about 2 mpg each time I filled.

What's your MPG?

I think my 09 4.6 Genesis that I bought is a fluke. It gets terrible fuel economy, I have owned much faster cars that get much better MPG, in my car I can only get about an average of 15-16 MPG combined. My car ranges from 12 MPG in the city with A/C to about 26 MPG driving like an old man on the highway...not impressive. Oh well that's wh at happens when you go for the V8!

Re: What's your MPG?

There is no way to compare one person's combined MPG with another person. The only reasonable comparison is highway MPG at a fixed speed (cruise control) on a flat road.

If you can drive at a constant highway speed with cruise control on a flat road for about 25 miles, and then post the MPH and MPG, that would provide some measure of comparison with other 4.6 owners. You can use the built-in MPG calculator since, even if there is some error, it is probably the error same for all cars.

Topics merged.

I'm still getting terrible mileage, but my stop-and-go-city-driving is what it is. 16.7 mpg.

When I fuel up and get on the highway, I'm easily in the 22's.

It doesn't help to idle for an extended period of time either.... like my last tank of gas!

This. There are way too many variables affecting MPG to compare apples to apples. OP, if you drive long distances on the highway at a fixed speed, you're gonna see the EPA highway numbers easily. If you drive short distances in urban environment, you're not gonna be happy, the EPA city numbers are best case scenario.

I use an App, MYMILEMARKER.com, that computes mpg and projects annual costs and annual mileage. It is necessary to fill up everytime to get accurate results. Since my car was new I've been recording my numbers. With 3502 on the odometer, I'm getting 24.5 mpg on 6 fillups (one was from the dealer which didn't get recorded) 3.8 V6, 80% highway. The mpg's is coming down some since I am becoming acclimated to the Genny's "zip". My V6 Genny is almost as quick as my 2008 6M G37S Coupe with Injen CAI. My Infiniti got 17.1 (mostly city). My 2011 Grand Cherokee 4x4 Hemi got 17.2mpg over a year on the same run as the Genny. I LOVE this car they call Hyundai Genesis
