  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

The car industry is very competitive, especially for new comers in crowded segments. The largish luxury sedan segment is no exception, and with KIA’s first entry comes all the signs of a design manufactured for maximum appeal. But where do you start when designing what is essentially, a generic luxury car?

When the first images of the K9 were released, many observers noted its similarities with the BMW 7 series, and with other BMWs in general. We see most of the BMW resemblance in the front and rear ends of the car.

A lot of companies borrow from each other for design queues, it's the nature of the business. Overall the new Quoris looks good and has quite an impressive list of amenities. The new Genesis better take this to heart, isn't it wrong when your sibling company starts producing cars with better features than your own?

The Genesis is due for a redesign in 2014. Look for it to come ou with all of the goodies from the Quoris and few extras.

Yep....I'm waiting for the 2014's before my next purchase, really looking to see the redesign..hopefully not too crazy of a departure from the current model. At a minimum it should match the safety features and technology that the new Quoris has.

It will... at a minimum. It will also have BlueLink and AWD. The two big questions will be 1) How much? and 2) How will it look?

^ Eh, the LS460 (pre-"Predator-face") is more generic - generic BMW greenhouse w/ the Hofmeister grill, generic grill w/ the horizontal grill slats and generic rectangular taillight design.

Oddly enough, the new taillights on the refreshed LS now look like those on the K9.

And I'd say the K9 has a better roofline/greenhouse than the LS, 7 Series, S Class, A8, XJ or Equus (Schreyer still needs to rework the front tho).

What is your infatuation with trolling Lexus not just here but all over looking at links shared? Its odd b/c Hyundai directly used Lexus as influence for design.

It seems you have absolutely no eye for design. Are you one that reads the Car and Driver when you go for your weekly check-ups?

^ So why don't you actually come out w/ something to refute what i had stated? (It's not as if the "Predator"-face hasn't gotten a mixed, polarized response.)

So the LS/GS don't have a greenhouse w/ the Hofmeister kink and a grill w/ horizontal slats? If Lexus doesn't use horizontal grill slats, they use vertical grill slats or in case of sportier trims, a mesh grill treatment - which is all pretty much standard as luxury cars go (including Hyundai - but Hyundai did add "surfacing" to the grill slats).

Aside from the front of the Equus (which is a bit more aggressive than the norm for the segment), I find the rest of the Equus a snooze-fest. So I guess I'm "trolling" Hyundai (not to mention my criticisms of the designs of the dash in both in the Genesis and Equus).

Really, there is no need for you to get all personal (if you disagree, then you simply disagree).

And chances are, I have a much keener eye for design that you.

YEH - design the next Genesis sedan.

What would you do?

^ Would elongate the greenhouse to give the Genesis a sleeker profile to start.

Would also totally change the headlight and taillight designs to give it a more modern, sleeker look.

But the biggest changes would be in the inside - the current dash design is so outdated (was outdated to begin with when the Genesis was launched) and the silver painted plastic on the center stack is a major, major faux pas in my book.

Btwn the 2, I'd say the Equus needs the bigger overhaul when it comes to sheetmetal; I kinda like the front end which has more presence than the front of the S Class (better shaped headlights, a more masculine grill design), but the rest of the design is too bland (and like the Genesis, the dash/center stack of the Equus is in need of a major overhaul).

Some of the tech that *MAY* make it to the next-gen Genesis sedan:

Remember... it's not guaranteed the Quoris is coming to the US, nor is it guaranteed that all these options will make it into the US-Spec car IF it does become available in the states.

Same goes for including it in the next-gen Genesis. Though I would think some of the features will (like HUD, LCD display panel, 360-cameras, etc.

Highlights:

On top of adaptive cruise control, automatic braking, and an Around View Monitor camera system, the Quoris will also offer the brand’s first 12.3-inch TFT LCD gauge cluster. Drivers can customize the color, size, and type of information displayed on the screen. Kia has opted for a traditional two-dial design, despite using the large screen in lieu of regular gauges. The Quoris wil also offer a full-color head-up display that can show speed, navigation instructions, cruise control information, and speed limits. Both front and rear passengers will have a BMW iDrive-like controller for the infotainment systems; there are two seat-mounted screens in back, and one large screen on the center stack.
