  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Just wondering what setting every has for their HUD rotation.....

Edit: Disregard my lack of reading comprehension!

Why?
It's directionally proportionate to your height, the position of your seat, and if you sit upright or slouch.
It's almost like asking what others pay for insurance. Too many variables to even begin to compare.

Umm, what does rotation have to do with the height of your seat, or the rest? The HUD height certainly is very useful and will vary driver to driver for the reasons you stated. But rotation? I cant figure out a need for it and actually am curious if anyone has it set to anything other than zero (flat). If so, what problem did rotating the HUD solve for you?

I think I rotated it as much as it would go, because it makes it slightly more visible with polarized sunglasses on (though I can always just dong my head if I want to see what it says). I wish someone would find a solution to that issue.

You mean change the laws of physics? That a tough one. 😊

Ahh, a trick when you're wearing sunglasses! Does it work much? So true that it gets very dim when wearing these.

Now that I've reread his question, I'll admit I completely misunderstood what he was asking. Sorry!

Doesn't work that well, but it's slightly better with the rotation. Obviously the information is available elsewhere, but it's just so handy having it in front of your face.

If you dong your head you can see it quite clearly.

Thanks! Funny, it never occurred to me that is was the polarization from the sunglasses that made that (rather drastic) dimming effect on the HUD. Of course! Interesting (partial) solution... Though, I think the tilted view would drive me nuts. I, too, love the HUD, and was surprised at how quickly I changed habits and began ignoring the conventional dashboard.

I dont drive mid-day all that often, mind you.., and it seems to be a, primarily, mid-day problem in my experience. Mornings and evenings seem fine to me.

Honestly, even at maximum rotation it still looks straight to me.

I have noticed that as you drive the HUD seems to try to level itself on a banked road.

Yeah, that's a bit weird. For me, it "rotates" as you would expect -- around a clock face. Anything other than zero (with the extreme Right and Left points at 3 and 9) seem really odd. It's why I asked why anyone might change it. Seemed like a useless function.

I love my polarized glasses cause it eliminates all glare from the sun. But with that being said our HUD is just that as well. It’s literally a glare (reflection from where it is projected). If you wear non polarized glasses you would not have the disappearing issue. Personally I am not willing to give up all my glare defense from the sun since it’s sunny 300+ days a year in southern nv. I just put my digital speedo up when I’m wearing sunglasses

The Chevrolet Lumina minivan, aka the "Dustbuster" from the early 1990's, had such a large windshield area that GM installed a polarized film in the glass sandwich. It can be seen here as the purple color. It reduced heat gain in the vehicle and improved glare reduction. Problem: If driver wore polarized glasses it was like night driving during the day.

My polarized Raybans must not be terribly dark as I can still see the HUD without issue in all but the most direct glaring sun conditions where the sun is beating directly on the windshield. Even then it's still visible, just a little hard to make out. These glasses are probably approaching 20 years of age though, perhaps the polarizing effects of the lenses can lose effectiveness over time.
