  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

What should be included in a "fuel system clean"?

As far as the drip goes, the slower the better. I like one drip every 2 seconds. Takes about 20 minutes to use the can up, then let it sit for 3-5 minutes and fire her up and let the carnage begin.

The throttle body to me is the lease important part, so removal to me is not worth it, but since I am quite handy with tools and having the full service manual, I would have no problem removing it myself and doing it.

Here is a video that was uploaded today about fuel system cleaners. Pretty impressive before and after photos of the piston head. Scotty Kilmer did mention to use a couple of bottles though a few tanks of fuel, so that is why he probably had great results. He specifically mentions Seafoam is for old engines especially 2 stoke and this should be avoided. I wonder if Seafoam is what caused my fuel pump failure at 23000 miles. I used Seafoam only once with the Genesis for winter storage. I use Stabil every year now. I don't use a fuel system cleaner since I don't have a GDI engine and I run top tier fuel mostly, but I will start using Gumout multi-system treatment in my wifes turbo GDI Optima every once in a while.

According to the service writer that recommended I do this, they remove and soak the throttle body to remove carbon caused by less than tier 1 fuel (Chevron, Shell and Union 76). They charged me $7.66 for the cleaner, and $112.29 for labor.
I use premium and rotate between brands as well as the Amzoil fuel system treatment.
There is something called Top Tier Gas. Not sure about Tier 1. Although initially only a few brands were Top Tier, these days, the vast majority (but not all) brands in the USA are Top Tier.

In addition to using Top Tier gas, I also use Chevron Fuel Injector Cleaner at least once a year, which is dirt cheap as Costco for a 6-pack or you can get it at any autoparts store or discount store (Walmart, etc).

Race Track which is a popular chain in the south (Texas) is not on the list.
It's good to know so I can avoid buying gas from it from now on.

It is usually the case that companies like Race Track buy their gas with additive package from various different independents, depending on the exact location. So it may be that most of their stations do have Top Tier Gas, but they are not on the list since some of their suppliers do not meet the criteria (or have not registered with Top Tier Gas. Costco was like that for a long time, until just recently when they ensured that all their stations are now Top Tier, even though they use different suppliers depending on location.
