  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

What surprises have you "found" in your car...

That trunk switch works just like the doors do. You still have to be close enough to the vehicle for it to pick up your fob.

But it is nice to be able to keep the fob in your pocket and not fumble around with it. It's also nice that it doesn't set off the alarm...other cars I've had would set off the alarm if you didn't disarm the system before you opened the trunk (including my last car, a Sonata).

Not if the car is already unlocked;)

I'm pretty sure that this meets all the criteria necessary to be included in the list as a "surprise", right, Acey?

Oh, perhaps, but I'm not done looking yet, SD! I'm sure there is/are more:D

Acey...

I beat a new Turbo GTI... that's my suprise. Plus it is MUCH quieter than alot of people suspect. My only issue was the dyno number...

233rwhp and 216 ft-lbs. That's almost in the hot hatchback arena. Kinda weak for a 3700 car.

That's a tough one, since there have been a lot of things I've discovered (or knew about before I bought the car) from genesisowners.com :)

My self-discoveries:
  • For XM radio and voice command, you can say something like "channel CNN," "channel XM 20 on 20," or "channel 80's on 8" and the speech recognition does a pretty good job with that.
  • For the integrated Bluetooth and voice command, you can speak the entire phone number even though the prompts say to say the numbers one at a time--provided you speak fast enough. Any pauses causes the system to try to recognize the input. So, you can do: 2 "two, bing" 1 "one, bing" 3 "three, bing" etc. etc. or 2135551212 for "two one three five five five one two one two, bing"
  • Reversing with the backup camera will cause the camera output to override anything that is displayed on screen, including the disclaimer warning.
  • Reversing will cancel voice command.
  • The only way I've found to cancel route guidance on the GPS is to say that via voice command.
  • You can set the door locks to auto lock based on speed (or by shifting out of park)
  • You can have the car retract the driver's seat and/or steering wheel on exit.
  • The glass is laminated--good for sound insulation as well as protected my windshield from a rock strike.
  • The center rear headrest can fold up/down (and that when up, it's annoying because it blocks a good portion of the center rear view).

You can cancel the guidance by pressing down the selecter dial when the GPS map is displayed. It will prompt you to suspend route guidance.

after 4 mos, I just realized there is a slot right in front of the gearshift to insert your key and another neat feature is when you cut the car of with it still in the slot, it blinks and beeps, sort of neat, also the rear trunk opening on the outside only works when you have the key with you..

1. I have a PDF copy of the Driver Information System Quick Reference Guide that on Page 29 in the "Info main menu" shows "Vehicle Height" (shows the current vehicle height setting) and "Suspension Info" (shows the suspension Hardness setting). Wouldn't we just love to really have that in the car!!!!

YES, yes I would!!!

Thank you for this most useful post. I've just had my Genesis one week, and still trying to learn all the bells and whistles. I had great difficulty getting the voice activated GPS to suspend, so thanks for the helpful hints. I want to learn to use all the voice commands so I can really enjoy just driving!

...That there's not only an adjustable hole for a power cord and sync cables in the split-level center console bin/armrest, but there's also a hole that allows a cord to remain outside of the closed bin (for a radar detector, etc.). It's a nice touch.

I've noticed that when I put the Gen into reverse, and the back-up camera comes on, if I happen to simultaneously make a phone call, (and/or get an incoming call) the phone display screen activates over the camera, largely obliterating the view through the camera.

So not sure I like that feature, unless there is something I can do to cancel seeing the call during a back-up event. I would think the safety feature of seeing the reverse process would take precedence over me seeing who is calling, or me calling out. Any ideas?

I bumped the DIS knob one time and same thing....now I have the XM screen and the camera went away. Not sure how to reverse this, but it would be helpful to know....just in case.

Blaster, if you shift out of reverse and then back into reverse the camera should come right back on.

I just tried it on my gennie and that is exactly what just happened. :D

This may fix Acey's issue with the phone call....

I didn't know about that, now I have to go look for that hole.

While you are looking, look for the second one. :p

Just kidding, they are both on the front of the arm rest/storage box. I'd call them indentations more than holes. But they are a nice touch.

SterlingDave,
Yesterday I spent sometime looking for that hole in the center console. I wished that I saw your post first but found them on my third try. Thanks for the perfect description. Also, these same cutouts for the cables are a real nice touch that I have missed since February.
Thank for the description, Steve

Perhaps other already knew this, but in the non-tech the cupholders are different sizes, which is surprisingly helpful. Just noticed after 4 months.

Just found the recessed grab for closing the trunk on the trunk inside near the inside opening latch. Lots of small details add up to make a great car! :D
