  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

that you forgot that the salesman told you.....and that you haven't read about on this forum?

I'll start:

1. the "luggage" net
2. the trunk "lock" button in the glove compartment
3. the trunk opening button (the one on outside of the trunk)
4. the sunglasses compartment
5. the little "Genesis" lights on the threshold of each door (very elegant)
6. the extra "storage space" under the floorboard of the trunk
7. the parking assist button has to be on if you want parking assistance
8. the brake pedal must be pressed if you want the car to start :o
9. the brakes on this car are AMAZING

OK, I'm not sure that the salesman told me about all/any of these but it's sorta like Christmas morning every time that I get in the car. :)

If I ever take the time to read the manual(s), I might become dangerous.

The hidden key lock for the trunk, Knowing about it would have saved me a LOT of time and trouble....

But there is no lock on the pass thru from the rear seats to the trunk so if you wanted to reach thru there and scrounge for something to steal it wouldnt be difficult to get to it... kinda weird.

What storage space are you talking about in the trunk? Are you referring to the space around the mickey mouse spare tire? I wouldnt think this is a plus, but hey!! Nice try !

I was pleasantly surprised to find the rain sensing wipers. It doesn't see much rain, but it was neat nonetheless. Another neat recently discovered feature: if you hold down the forward/reverse buttons on the steering wheel, it changes to the next frequency (or channel on XM) instead of skipping to the next preset. I like this a lot (it's the little things, eh?)

I didn't know there was a trunk lock button in the glovebox until this post. :D

News to me !!
Where is it located

Gotta make lemonade from the lemons. <baby spare = lemons>

You can put all kinds of "soft" goods back there: <soft = nothing that rattles> Maybe a couple of old rags for quick cleanup, a pair of golf shoes (or two), box or two of golf balls, etc. Put anything that might soil the mat in the trunk if it fits in the "storage space". And hey, you couldn't reach into it from the passthru. ;)

OK, this one intrigues me. Would you be reaching from inside the car back into the trunk? Or maybe from the trunk into the car? :D

It seems to me that if you want to "safeguard" the trunk contents (assuming anything valuable would fit through the passthru) there are a number of ways to keep the trunk contents safe: starting with locking the car doors (and trunk), maybe putting a properly sized piece of plywood over the back of the trunk (preventing any passthru), etc.

I'm with you on the kinda weird....

Reducing the air pressure in my tires have made the ride mucho bettero !!!!

This sounds promising; how much did you lower the pressure?

Did you notice any difference in handling, lowering of mpg, different tire wear?

PARKING ASSIST ?
Where/what is that ??? R U talking about the proximity sensors ?

Parking assist[ance] is a technology package feature. The proximity sensors provide the sensing for parking assistance.

If you have the feature then there is an operable button on the dash, left of the steering wheel, first button on the left. You may have the feature on or off. Sorta nice, especially if you turn it on. :o

So many toys.....so little time..... :)

I think his surprise is that others in the auto industry use that term to describe systems that more specifically either give the driver more specific instructions on how to parallel park or automatically control the car for the same effect.

In the Genesis' case, you can argue that the proximity sensors and backup camera path/distance overlay lines serve as parking assistance, but I think the technology is starting to evolve to go further than that.

When I drove the car of the lot two months ago all the tires had about 35 psi. I reduced them down to 32 psi cold and after a few miles of driving on them it seemed a bit less bouncy. The steering wheel shook for about a day until the wheels reset themselves on the rim (thats my guess anyway). there is a bit more road noise, but nothing really to make me put more air back in the tires. It seems to work for me. Im still in love with this car and hope it does well for Hyundai.

There are 3 setting on the side mirror controls. Left, Center and Right. When backing up, the right setting will force the right mirror down. If set to the left it will force both mirrors down. When set to center, both mirrors will remain unchanged. I found this out by accident. Nice post SterlingDave!

.....and that you haven't read about on this forum?
That's a tough one, since there have been a lot of things I've discovered (or knew about before I bought the car) from genesisowners.com :)

My self-discoveries:
  • For XM radio and voice command, you can say something like "channel CNN," "channel XM 20 on 20," or "channel 80's on 8" and the speech recognition does a pretty good job with that.
  • For the integrated Bluetooth and voice command, you can speak the entire phone number even though the prompts say to say the numbers one at a time--provided you speak fast enough. Any pauses causes the system to try to recognize the input. So, you can do: 2 "two, bing" 1 "one, bing" 3 "three, bing" etc. etc. or 2135551212 for "two one three five five five one two one two, bing"
  • Reversing with the backup camera will cause the camera output to override anything that is displayed on screen, including the disclaimer warning.
  • Reversing will cancel voice command.
  • The only way I've found to cancel route guidance on the GPS is to say that via voice command.
  • You can set the door locks to auto lock based on speed (or by shifting out of park)
  • You can have the car retract the driver's seat and/or steering wheel on exit.
  • The glass is laminated--good for sound insulation as well as protected my windshield from a rock strike.
  • The center rear headrest can fold up/down (and that when up, it's annoying because it blocks a good portion of the center rear view).

Where is the compartment for glasses?
Do you mean the space inside the armrest?

It's actually in front of the overhead light cluster, close to the windshield

...unless you have a model without integrated Bluetooth, in which case the Bluetooth speaker module replaces the sunglasses holder.
