  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

What would you buy if you're in my shoes?

If you are trying to save money then just buy a cheaper 2012-2014 Genesis. On the other hand, you can buy a used 2015-2017 Genesis/G80 for about $30k or less.

The question is what is your goal? To save money or the have a nicer ride?

I think I would like to have a nicer car, but also thinking that if I spend all my cash now, I won't be able to upgrade to a new one for a lot longer. Do we know when the next significant redesign of the G80 will occur?
When I testdrove a 2015 a few years back, I thought it felt a lot heavier and more sluggish than my 2012. Has that improved with the G80 3.8L, or do I need to get the 3.3T if I want an upgrade in performance?

find a Rspec sedan you wont regret it. 👍

The performance of the 2015 and new G80 is pretty much the same. If you want more, yes, go with the 3.3. The 2020 is more of a style change than previous years but not radical from what I've seen.

From what I can tell, the 2015-2018 Genesis/G80(3.8 and 5.0) are nearly the same except for a few styling changes. Both the 3.3T sport and the older 2015 5.0 model has been tested to have nearly the same performance, with the 3.3T having a slight edge due to having summer performance tires.

If you want the model with the most performance potential ; then buy a used 2017 G80 3.3T sport model and then have the engine chip tuned for more power. If you going to remain stock, then both the 2015 V8 and 2017-2018 3.3t models will perform nearly the same. 2016 did not have a 5.0 V8 model for some reason. The 3.8 V6 power rating has not changed from 2015-2018, so the performance will be the same I bet to the 2015 model you tested.

N/A for me .

I second the guy who said get a R-spec sedan. I would look for a 2013-15 5.0 R-spec. That is going to be the best bang for your buck.

For ~$30K you can get '16 or newer, which comes with 5yr/60K miles including electronics, instead of 3yr/36K miles for '15 and older.

As I owned '13 Rspec, '15 5.0 and now '18 3.3tt, I would never go back, especially to the 1st. generation, even though, the Rspec has 429hp, but for as little as ~$700 you can tune your g80 sport with JB4 and run circles around rspec all day long, lol

Perhaps whoever did that test changed them but the G80 3.3t Sport comes standard with All Season tires not summer.
