  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Has anyone installed wheel rim protectors like Rimsavers or Alloygators? If yes what has your experience been? I have had a wheel repaired/repainted twice (curb rash) in ten months of owning my 2022 GV80 3.5T Prestige. I have a wheel insurance policy but it is getting old having this done. They have different colors available but I am not looking for a style addition. I just want something that would almost be invisible but would protect my rims. I know that ideally I would drive in a manor so that I would not incur curb rash, That is hard to do in a daily driver vehicle when you encounter different roads, parking lots and other drivers. Thank you for your comments.

My dad has the alloygators, but he has the older version as they just recently changed the design.

I am not sure if I can recommend them. Yes, it will prevent curb rash, but they are sacrificial and may need to be replaced if they get ruined. Road debris can get in behind the protector and scuff up the wheel finish underneath. Also should you need to replace a tire, not all tire shops can reinstall them. DIY installation can produce mixed results. I tried doing it myself on one wheel following a YouTube video and it ended up coming off while driving. Your results may vary.

I'm not sure if this will help you or not. But I use my overhead camera a lot when getting into tight spaces like parking spaces and drive thrus. Of course it won't help if they are curbs when you are making a turn in traffic but I wasn't sure when this was happening or if you'd tried that option.

Thank you for your suggestion. It is a good one and it makes sense. I have owned this vehicle for 10 months and still am learning how to use the technology. The second time that I damaged my wheel was while turning. I am trying to pay very close attention when turning now. And I try to avoid drive through lanes altogether.

Your grandfather had the solution on his 1950 Studebaker.
