Sounds like you are describing my former Mercedes dealer. Fortunately, my Hyundai/Genesis is much better with comfy seating, table for the laptop if you bring one. With covid they did stop the denuts though. Still vending machines and free trinks.I have an appointment for my first oil change on Friday at the local Hyundai/Genesis dealership, so we'll see how that goes. No loaners or Valet available.
I took it (2021 G80) last Winter for a battery check and was underwhelmed by the service. The waiting area had maybe 5 chairs, no food, water, etc. Thought I was in a 1960's gas station lobby. When I got an email survey, I filled it out basically saying that the service area was about as far from "luxury" as you could get. The service manager sent me an email saying they have BIG PLANS. I guess I'll find out Friday if maybe they added a chair or something.
HMG is rewarding dealers that don’t charge above MSRP on the sale of Genesis vehicles by selecting those stores as a priority.GMA has indicated that their target is to have around 100 stand alone or separated dealerships open by the end of '24 and today there are two in operation and some coming.
Many buyers of new Genesis models have expressed displeasure over the sub luxury level customer experience at their dealer and are anxious for big improvement.
What's your guess as to:
1.) how many fully operational dedicated Genesis dealers (sales & service) will exist in the U. S. at the end of '24.
2.) whether GMA will yank the Genesis franchise from those dealers that don't have dedicated facilities at the end of '24
This article might help inform your guess: Genesis Opens First Stand-Alone Dealership in U.S. - The Detroit Bureau
There will be no prizes for guesses that turn out to be accurate, but have fun!
( if you believe that the current Genesis dealer network is no worse than that of other luxury marques, ignore this post or just post the reply "because pandemic")
So wrong on so many counts. The Hyundai dealers were scumbags that held the Genesis brand hostage because they didn't want to give up the cars due to their fat profit margins. Want to know why Genesis didn't come out the gate with its own dealerships? The Hyundai dealers sued them out of existence. Full thread here:Based upon the lack of foresight Genesis displayed in first authorizing the co-located Hyundai/Genesis dealerships to initiate and pump the brand, then dumping those that could not afford to open a separate Genesis-only facility and in the process abandoning many, many buyers, I predict an early demise of the Genesis brand. I say this because I suspect current owners and potential buyers will no longer trust Genesis. New buyers will shy away from the brand and current owners will be too skittish to put another $60k- $80k at risk.
I write this as an owner of a 2021 GV80 3.5L Prestige. I love my GV80 but I will not buy another, simply because of that lack of trust.

Hyundai dealers try to sue Genesis from opening stand-alone facilities.... again
Yep, Hyundai dealerships are that parasitic. Hyundai Making Elite Seller Club For Luxury Line, Dealer Says - Law360 Hyundai Making Elite Seller Club For Luxury Line, Dealer Says By Nadia Dreid Law360 (August 10, 2020, 7:57 PM EDT) -- Hyundai is skirting...genesisowners.com
I would agree with this. I own both a GV70 and G70 - terrible support and I'm thinking about dumping the cars before it's too late.Based upon the lack of foresight Genesis displayed in first authorizing the co-located Hyundai/Genesis dealerships to initiate and pump the brand, then dumping those that could not afford to open a separate Genesis-only facility and in the process abandoning many, many buyers, I predict an early demise of the Genesis brand. I considered dumping mine after the service dept. treatment and I got 3 quotes but decided against taking the financial hit because I can do oil changes myself. It's certainly ridiculous, especially at this age, to do my own service on a new luxury vehicle but many dealers lack qualified techs and are not up to standards. GMA has a long way to go in establishing a competent luxury class dealer network.I would agree with this. I live in the 4th largest statistical population area (pop 7.6 million) in the US. 6 years after the launch of the brand, still no stand-alone Genesis dealerships. Meanwhile, Lafayette, La (pop 241,000) is enjoying a stand-alone. WTF?
I agree with earlier posts, the brand will not survive in the US. We'll continue to wait in line for days or weeks for service behind Elantras and Sante Fe's.
I’m thinking you’re wrong on this front by a year. It makes sense that the two dealerships per state model will already be in existence by your time frame.Standalone dealerships won't be widely available until HMG expands production capacity and is able to provide Genesis dealerships with enough inventory to at least break even/take a small loss.
Hence, around 2024 - when HMG's new EV plant in the US should be up and running.
That comes down to factors like ownership group, cost of land/construction, etc.
The Lafayette dealership was built by the Sterling Automotive Group, a big/deep pocketed auto group which owns numerous dealerships in TX, LA and other states, so they can afford to take losses for the near future.
As I've stated before, having new facilities is no guarantee of good service.
A crappy ownership group usually has poor service across all its brands and vice versa.
I believe there are currently just 3 dedicated Genesis only locations in operation - Layfayette, one temporary location in Ft. Myers and another in Santa Monica. I don't know if the two temporary locations include a Genesis dedicated service department.Sure, the overhead would be higher but so would the return. How much more volume could push through a Houston or DFW store versus Lafayette?

Optimism in 2022 is a compliment, so I’ll take it.^ There are more than 3 - most being in temp locations.
There's also the showroom at the Hudson Yards in Manhattan (does sales, but service is handled at another location).
A good # of states don't have any Genesis dealerships, so let's say it's 40 states - so 2 per state would equal 80.
In the press release for the Lafayette opening, GMA stated that 4 dealerships have started construction with another 20 or so in various stages of planning.
Think 80 by the end of 2023 is a bit optimistic.

I would say you are pretty optimistic. This economy which has been disastrous and still burning, who knows what will happen........^ There are more than 3 - most being in temp locations.

Except that combined, Genesis, Hyundai & Kia have just taken 10% of the market share of the USA.I would say you are pretty optimistic. This economy which has been disastrous and still burning, who knows what will happen........
