  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Genesis Model Type
2G Genesis Sedan (2015-2016)
I have a 2016 3.8 ultimate package.
Whenever I started the engine, the audio system always plays radio, even though I used 'media' with my phone before I turned off the car.
It's a bit annoying to hear sirius all the time without subscription.

Is there anyway, my car's audio starts at the previous mode that I have used before I turned off the engine?

It should start at the previous mode if it was radio, or media. I just tried it to be sure. The media was disconnected but it was still in that mode with nothing playing.

Have you tried tuning to an AM or FM station? It would be better than an ad for Sirius.

You could try resetting the system to see if that helps. I see nothing that would change the startup default.

the issue is that Bluetooth (or carplay on USB) is the last part of the system to boot up.

mine does the same thing, Sirius or FM radio until the confirm screen goes away, then it says "connecting Bluetooth" or if plugged in "usb connected Carplay starting"

in either case if I already have music playing then it flips over.

if you turn the car off with the phone playing music it should pick right back up as soon as everything connects. however if you are anal like me and close all the open apps when you go to bed at night before charging, then you have to open the music app on the phone again.

I think maybe this is different when our cars went to the Genesis brand. Mine does the same as OP, and it is INFURIATING. It does stay on FM AM or XM, but if you use the Mode button on the wheel to change to BT, the last mode you were in is then XM, so you get XM when you start back up, even without a subscription... I remember this being annoying on my 2012 Kia Optima as well. Don't understand why the Mode doesn't stay the same and just wait for the freakin BT connection. My last car (2015 Jeep Grand Cherokee) sometimes took like 2 minutes to connect to my phone, but it was in the BT mode and would just play nothing until it was finally connected. The newer cars, you can remove modes (at least from the rotation it goes through with the mode button on the wheel) that you don't want to cycle through... If anyone ever finds a solution to this I'll pay them for it!!

It seems like this is not my own problem. hmm...

Same issue here and it seems to be like that by design. I had 2018 Sonata for 1 year and it would always connect to the last media which most of the time was Bluetooth. When I got my Genesis, it would bother me a lot at the beginning but I already got used to it. I am sure the G80 does not have that problem :)
