  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Hey everyone. Im new here. Ill admit up front that when it comes to knowing cars under the hood......... Im clueless. I went out looking to buy a car, test drove about 6, and went back to the Genesis 2.0T and bought it. Now Im trying to understand where I can start enhancing its performance. Keep in mind that I dont get the "lingo" too well. And the support in Eastern Canada for this car at this point would be nill.... as in there are not going to be Performance/Mod Garages I can just drive to for help.

Please keep your tips easy to read...... kind of like Genesis for Dummies! hhaha

first of all, gratz on the purchase. You certainly made a good choice.

Before you jump into modding frenzy, couple things you should know.

1. when you mod your car, expect to have your warranty voided. In other words, prepare to fix broken things out of your own pocket. I modded my evo 2 weeks after I got it, and never bothered to go to dealer.
2. Start reading about how Forced induction works and familiarize yourself with terms.
3. If you're rdy, first thing you should do..
a. exhaust system (downpipe, high flow catalytic converter or straight pipe, cat-back exhaust)
b. intake system (filter, pipe or just leave it stock and replace filter if it's already good)
c. boost controller
d. boost gauge (very important mod as you want to constantly monitor your boost level to make sure you aren't overboosting)
e. tune (piggyback or flash tune to modify boost/timing level to take advantage of the mods) You will benefit much more from tune with these mods but not a neccessity

These are considered very basic mods.. start from here when these become available.

^^ Good points. I'll add my two cents:

Always remember that folks are always willing to help you spend your money on mods. Only do what your comfort level and budget will allow. If you can, try another example of your car with the mod already installed (tough at this stage, I know).

Looking back over the past decades, I've screwed up some perfectly good, reliable cars with modding. Have fun, but be sure to keep an eye one the bottom line. :)

I say start with suspension, a nice set of coilovers, negative offset wheels with some sticky tires. But it all depends on what you are going to use the car for thats where I would start since I like to go to the track and canyons.
Hope this helps...

This stuff all sounds great but Im not sure I understand what Im supposed to be doing. I guess I have to read up on it for sure!! Thanks a lot!!!

you can never go wrong with upgrading the handling abilities of a car. Coilovers or springs (whatever is in your budget) will drastically improve handling and a lowered stance is always nice on the eyes:cool:
