  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Which do-dad could you live without?

"Experienced" would be the correct term. :D
I learned to drive in my Dad's 1946 army surplus Jeep. I have no need for most of the newfangled gadgets that have been added to cars since then. Harumph!

I use LDWS, rear shade, Hold System, very little. I am getting use to the smart cruise control I just wish that I could use regular cruise at times. I actually use the folding mirrors quite often when in tight parking spots.
Things I wish my 2013 Genny had would be a trunk that opens fully and didn't drip when raining, a more adjustable passenger seat.
But bottom line I love my Genny 2013 3.8 with tech package which replaced 2009 with prem pkg.

I would use some features more often if they were implemented differently. For example, the auto-hold button is a bit inconvenient to get to, and the rain-sensing wipers are usually at the wrong speed for the amount of rain. I also forget that the rear window shade is there, though I'm not convinced that it makes much of a difference.

I have an '11, so the LDWS is me. I use it all the time. :)

I sometimes wonder why I bought the Genny after listing all the things I never use (except to try them out):

LDWS
Auto-hold (people need auto-hold with automatics, really?)
Dipping outside mirrors when backing
Auto-on headlights
Bluetooth (wifey does use it however)
Manual tranny shifting
Heated seats (pulled the fuse for the rears due to poor switch placement)
Rear window shade
Puddle lights (hey, I'm in Arizona)
Rain detecting wipers (Arizona, remember?)
Rear window defogger (yup, same reason)
Adaptive cruise control (never use cruise control at all)
Valet parking key (no valet is ever going to drive my Genny!)
AM and XM radio (and analog FM only very rarely)
Nav (useless in sunlight, rarely drive at night, know my way around)

Are the dipping mirrors in reverse a feature you have to turn on somewhere?
mine do not do that. 2013 rspec.

All these toys are one of the key reasons I bought my specific car! Sure I love the rest of the car, but if you know how to use them, they make driving more enjoyable, more entertaining and in several cases more safe.

You folks should all have bought base models. Maybe they'll bring an R-spec in base trim...some might like it, but not me.

Hmmmmm. My mirrors do tip down, and I don't like it. If you find out how to turn that feature on, please post it so I can use it to turn that feature off.

The toggle switch that changes which mirror you want to adjust has three different positions - left mirror, middle and right mirror. Leaving it in the middle (neutral) position stops the mirrors from tilting downward.

If you leave the mirror switch (the one that determines which mirror you are adjusting) in the middle position the mirrors will not dip. If left in either right or left position they will dip.

The ONLY reason I bought the R-spec is for the suspension. If they had offered it on a base model I would have probably bought that instead. The only other option I would consider mandatory is the Lexicon audio system.

Unfortunately, in order to purchase one option you want you generally have to purchase a bunch of things you don't want, or don't care about. Good profit center for the mfr, but not so great for the consumer. I would much prefer not to have a sunroof, but I haven't been able to get a car that way for years because of this common business practice.

Well, you could wish for the Porsche approach to optioning...virtually every gizmo is individually 'orderable'. But then again, guess which car company is the most profitable per unit....Porsche. That money/profit comes from somewhere and I bet if you were to compare ordering all of the tech package options together versus one-by-one, we save a bunch. Or said another way, we all get a few of them for "free".

Hi all,
buying a New Porsche is in a different world to buying a New Genesis or even an Equus..
The Porsche is built to your specific requirements and this is reflected in the overall price, workmanship & finish..
The Hyundai's are built to excel in very competitive & specific market segments, by adding various electronics/gizmos the marketing gurus can show Hyundai's offer a whole lot more for the price as against a competitors higher priced & specked out vehicle..
I'm on my 7th Hyundai, every vehicle is a price/design/equipment compromise. The Genesis stands up extremely well against some very strong competition. Friends who have Caddy's, Jag's, Lexi, Infiniti's all have some small & sometimes big gripes.. In my humble opinion the "G" achieves a great motoring experience (8.5/10)..With a decent dashboard clock & the ability to turn off the Smart cruise and just have a basic cruise control my rating would leap up to (9.75/10)

Thank you guys, learned a new trick. I cant wait to get home and do it.

I have been feeling so economical (almost hippie-like) *shudder* driving this rental sonata hybrid all over Louisiana this week, I cant wait to get home and burn some gas in my v8 and try out my new tilting mirrors.:)

I agree on the sunscreen. The other three features I like, although it took a little time to get used to the adaptive cruise control. LDWS is a take it or leave it for me.

A lot of people have complained about the MPG readout. Mine is within 0.75 mpg on the three tanks I compared it to doing the math.

My mileage readout is just about dead on also. Remember folks it reads about 125-165 mile Rolling average. That is why you can have a tank that the first part was in town, then the mileage jumps way up and is above the tank average. Caught me a couple if times. If the same kind if driving is done for the whole tank, I find is accurate

The 8-speed is an unusual hindrance when going from auto to manual shift. There are just too many gears. This is typically the case when I find the "manual" shift desirable to "be aggressive", but the Hyundai "max fuel mileage" programming of the auto-tranny is unpredictable. 6 may be better than 8 for drivability with a minimal impact on fuel economy. (Don't get me started on 10. May as well have a CVT at that point with intelligent "shifting" that many MFGrs have already come up with.)

'12+ Eyebrow lights. Make them direct, high power LEDs without a diffuser as a substitute for DRLs and then we can talk.

Shiny, pretty surfaces. Reflects the sun in yours eyes. Examples: Shift plate silver surface, standard model fake woodgrain dash (not on the upgraded interiors.) Also includes the front hood cantering at the wiper/windshield point; the sun in front of you reflects directly into your eyes.

Auto-headlights. Fortunately, I can turn them off, but the sensor and associated circuitry is an additional cost.

While the OP asked, these are fairly minor gripes. I still think my '12 base G is a pretty stand-up ride for the $$$.

Good catch on the canted hood at the base. That us so frustrating. And dangerous with the sun reflection. Had the guy who did the front end clear tape protector, put a flat black strip in that part. It helps.

I'm curious. Do you know what he used? I don't want to use anything that would destroy the clear-coat and paint underneath, obviously.

I thought about electrical tape, at first, because I'm a nerdy EE. That took about 2.8 microseconds to realize how bad a decision that would be. :D
