  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

First off, I want to say this is an awesome forum! Great information on purchasing, models, etc.

If you were to purchase a Genesis today, which of the 3 deals below (if any) would you choose? I am trading an 06 Azera Limited with 71k miles. Good condition, 2nd owner w/2 accidents. Needs tires. No CarMax in St. Louis.

1. New 2011 V8 $37k purchase price with $9k trade
2. Demo 2011 V8 $35k with $8800 trade
3. New 2012 V6 premium $36,100 (circle pricing) with $9k trade

Any thoughts and advice would be much appreciated.

I would choose a 2011. Look closely at the two. The 2012 does not have chrome inside door handls, 2012 inside handles are silver color. The 2012 does not have chrome trim around outside of door windows, silver again. The 2012 exhaust feels cheap, touch, feel it for yourself. The new 8 speed transmission is not proven. Look at the rocker panel fit and finish of the two model years; I think the 2011 rocker panel looks better. The only thing I like better on the 2012 are the headlights.

If you've driven the '12 V6 and think you'll be satisfied with it over the V8, buy #3. On the other hand, if you'd rather have a V8 but don't want the '12 version, choosing between #1 and 2 depends on the condition of the demo and on whether the dealer is willing to include other inducements such as an extended warranty.

i assume you have test driven all 3. did you like the V8 better than the V6?

since your question is what i would choose, definitely #1. the V8 feels more luxurious. i don't trust demos, so that rules out #2.

Thanks for all of the input.

I have driven a 2011 V6 and thought 2011 V8 rode much smoother and did not have the severe hesitation when letting off the gas. I am driving the 2012 V6 at noon today. Unless the suspension has drastically improved, I will stick with the V8.

Last question - how many of you purchase the Hyundai Protection Plan? If so, any thoughts on which 1? IE - Silver Gold, Platinum, etc? I do not see any of these packages that cover the navigation system.

After having just completed driving 3000 miles on my new 2012 4.6 V8 Genesis I will share with you the following comments and thoughts as well as reflections when I went through the decision process.

1. The 4.6 is simply a smoother ride regardless of which year.
2. The 2012 absorbs imperfections in the road better than previous years. To me this was a stumbling block from purchasing a 2011 Genesis. Both the 2012 3.8 and 4.6 are satisfactory to me in this area but I felt after driving both that the 4.6 absorbs imperfections better.
3. The 3.8 handling is more nimble than the 4.6.
4. I feel that the 4.8 is better than the 3.8 as a highway cruiser.
5. The 3.8 handling might give it a slight edge in handling around town.

I have been extremely satisfied with the 4.6 2012 since getting it on 8/08.I have driven it through Florida and over the past week back to CT.

The new V8....even if it was $2k more. Honestly if the V8 were let's say $4k more....I would still consider or just not buy a Genesis at all....there is that much difference and I'm not talking acceleration but total driving experience difference.
