  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

I have a technical question for the forum operators here: do you know what sites (domains) the forum engine sets cookies from in order to function? I am happy to allow genesisowners.com to set cookies (and *.genesisowners.com), but if I do so the forum still doesn't work. If I try to log in, I get the pop up saying that the forum needs cookies to work. So it appears that there's a third party site that your forum engine uses to "maintain state" or whatever. If you tell me what site that is, then I'll allow it to set cookies as well :)

In the meantime, to access GO.com, I have to switch over to my "promiscuous" browser that I let set any cookies, but also keep in incognito mode and scrub periodically. Would much rather be able to have GO.com in my main browser, thread history, etc. Thanks in advance!

Hi Chris! Thank you for signing up. Oddly enough, in all the years I've been running forums, no one has ever asked this. At least not that I've seen. Does this link help any?

Doh! I meant to mention that I'd already seen that page. It just describes the exact cookies that are being set (nicely!) but it doesn't say which domain they're coming from. I'm already allowing GO.com / *.GO.com but it still doesn't work. Therefore I am assuming there's a third domain (perhaps xenforo.com or addonflare.com) that's needing to set cookies in order for login and other basic functions to work. EDIT: and I did try whitelisting those two just now, but still no-go

Hmm. Okay, let me see what I can find out. I'll get back to you...

Sal sent me a message with some questions, but I asked to keep this out here in the open, in case someday this is a problem for someone esle. So Sal asked me:

If you're using an ad blocker, turn it off and let me know if that fixes the issue - and we can go from there.

I'm not using an ad blocker. As I hinted above but neglected to state outright, I *am* using a cookie blocker extension, which allows me to whitelist sites as needed, and I've already whitelisted GO.com and *.GO.com. I can't / won't turn it off, but I'm happy to specifically whitelist any site that does need to set cookies for this forum to work.

Also, I'm told the software vendor doesn't set any cookies on third party sites. I wonder if it's an add-on that's causing the issue. You can use the developer console to check which cookies are being set by a site.

Great idea, duh I should have thought of that. Looking at the console, I see the GO.com cookie set attempts, and then also a number of what I guess are ad services sites (casalemedia, tynt, infolinks). In my secondary browser I see other services being set (doubleclick, googsyndication, 2mdn). In my main browser, the one with the cookie filtering, I *do* see the ads (oh man do I see the ads :) ) so me blocking cookies isn't blocking the ads. I've never used an adblocker.

Looking harder at the console, I see messages that imply that the GO.com cookies actually are NOT getting set, despite me allowing them. So I'm afraid this problem might be on my side, in the cookie filter addon, and not your problem. I can't / won't turn that off, so I'll have to live with flipping over to the promiscuous / incognito browser when I want to come to GO.com. It just adds friction to the whole process because I'll have to log in every time, won't have threads in my history, blah blah blah. Dammit, I really wanted this to work.

If you happen to notice that any of those sites might actually be part of the login / forum process (e.g. tynt), let me know and I'll try whitelisting it. And thanks for responding!
