  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

If you did that, then can you share your experience, i.e. what undercoating specs and brand was done and did you see improvement in cars road noise reduction or any other stuff? Thanks for sharing.:o

Fargo (1996):

Irate Customer: [sitting with wife and talking to Jerry Lundegarrd]
We sat right here in this room and went over this [during previous visit to dealer].

Jerry Lundegaard: Yah, but that TruCoat...

Irate Customer:
I said I didn't want any TruCoat!

Jerry Lundegaard: Yah, but I'm saying, that TruCoat, you don't get it, you get oxidation problems...

Irate Customer: You're sitting there talking in circles like we didn't go over this already!

Jerry Lundegaard: Yeah, but this TruCoat...

Irate Customer: We had a deal for $. Darned if you didn't tell me you'd get me this car without the sealant for $.

Jerry Lundegaard: All right, I'm not saying I didn't.

Irate Customer: You called me and said you had "it."
"Ready to make delivery" you says.
And here you are and you're wasting my time and my wife's time.
And I'm [only] paying $ for this vehicle here!

Jerry Lundegaard: All right. I'll talk to my boss.
[Jerry stands up, about to leave the room]
See, they install that TruCoat at the factory. There's nothing we can do.
But I'll talk to my boss.

Irate Customer: [talking to his wife]
These guys here. These guys. It's always the same. It's always more.

[Jerry Lundegaard leaves the room and goes into a another office, pretending to talk to his manager]

Jerry Lundegaard: [talking to another salesman who is watching a football game on TV]
You going to the Gophers game on Sunday?

Other Salesman: Oh, you betcha.

Jerry Lundegaard: You wouldn't have an extra ticket?

Other Salesman: You kiddin'?

Jerry Lundegaard: [Jerry returns to room with customer and his wife, with big smile on his face]:
Well. He's never done this before [referring to nonexistent manager], but seein' as it's special circumstances an' all...
He says I can knock $100 off that TruCoat.

Irate Customer: One hundred?
You lied to me, Mr Lundegaard.
You're a bald-faced liar.

Irate Customer’s wife: Bucky, please!

Irate Customer: A... f__king liar.

Irate Customer’s wife: Bucky, please!

Irate Customer: Where's my goddamn checkbook?
Let's get this over with, Where is it?

The 80's are over, so no more issues with OEM paint finish. You'd be wasting your money and adding weight to your car and making the stealership or another business very happy by getting this gimmick.

When I leased an Accord in the early 90's, the car I wanted had to be brought in from another dealer. I had said I did not want undercoat in no uncertain terms, but the car had already been undercoated. When they filled out the paperwork they said that Honda leasing would not accept undercoating as a dealer installed option, I said I would not pay for it and the dealer that installed it ended up eating the cost (nickel dime compared to what they wanted to charge for it). Don't get it, you don't need it either for corrosion or noise.

Love Fargo!

They supposedly installed undercoating AND scotch-guard on my car before I took delivery, but since I paid the Hyundai Circle price, I didn't pay for any of it.

IF it was even done at all. I have my serious doubts.

;)

Guys, I am not really curious nor interested in rust protection of the car bottom, I know it must already had been well protected. I could not see the bottom metal surface of my Genesis since there are plastic armour plates on it, but when I looked at other Hyundai SUV at the dealership when they have tried to sell me the "TruCoat" of their for $$$$ there was already a black rubber like undercoating from the factory. Once I showed that to the dealer's salesman, he had a really hard time still trying (unsuccessfully) to sell me their "TrueCoat".

Did Anyone try Dynamat or similar material in their Genesis sedan cars (interior sound deadening)? I am more curious about road noise, but I got that feeling that Genesys is already so well sound insulated that there is not much can be done to further improve it, any additional effort will not bring much value or improvement. <b>Agreed?<b>

The Genesis' sound deadening can be improved. I think tire noise is excessive, compared to other high-end cars I have driven. We permit studded winter tires in OR which tear up roads and make them very tire-noisy.

I removed the rear seats and installed sound deadener where I could reach. It makes a material difference, not huge though. I used a butyl-based compound that is sold by Lowes as "rain gutter repair tape." It is sticky on one side and shinny on side facing outward. It is far cheaper than Dynomax at about $1/sq ft. This is the 5th car I have used the Lowes material; and there has been no problems whatsoever with it.

If you want sound deadening you want ensolite, this actually reduces decibel(s). Dynamat and other asphalt products only dampen metal vibration. Dynamat does make your door sound solid when you shut it. You can do a search for more details - reducing sound coming in the car and dampening metal vibration are two different things.

Could you please recommend the links/websites with such research results?
