  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Not all on-line ads show the picture of the VIN plate so I'm trying to figure out what VIN range has the updated (no oil consumption) engine.

I've found a VIN ending in 193037 that has a date of MAR/04/12.

Who has a known "good" car and what are the last 6 digits of your VIN?

I'd love to pick up a 13 put the mid-mileage 12's are in my price range.

Thanks,

J

Build dates after 2/12 seem to have less issues. I'll try to remember to snag my VIN.
That said, IF it goes...free, new engine. Not the worst deal out there.

Not if it has over 60k miles right? Or is the engine guaranteed for any owner until 100k? AND, I'd rather not have to go thru the ordeal of getting a new engine if I can avoid it.

Thanks,

J

Looking to update and upgrade your Genesis luxury sport automobile? Look no further than right here in our own forum store - where orders are shipped immediately!
I believe it's 50K miles unless you get a CPO, then it reverts back to the original 100K.

Since I heard about the oil consumption issue I've been checking my '12 5.0 R more frequently and this thing doesn't burn any oil at all.

I'm also interested in knowing the VIN range. I must be outside of it...

KMHGC4DH6CU199965 - no issues of any kind except a back-dated nav map which was updated by dealer under warranty.

My 2012 R Spec is in the shop right now for excessive oil consumption, erratic transmission, no AM radio, broke side view mirror and a few other minor issues. I have the CPO and extended warranty though, so they know they have to make it right for me. If it takes a new engine so be it.

Build date?

I don't have the VIN immediately on hand right now but it was built in June '12 and it's great...no burning oil.

Well I got my car back last night to do a 500 mile oil consumption test. Drove it for two blocks and the oil light came on. Low on oil. The dealer dropped off the car, they are 10 miles from me.

Might be new motor time.

What's your build date?

Sorry for the loooong delay.

Build date is 4/18/12 per the dealership.

The service guy claimed "I've never heard of an oil consumption issue. There are no TSB's I'm aware of."

Service manager told me the same..."we've never seen a genesis with a oil consumption problem"

Yeah...............

69k on the clock, build date july 11, 2011.. No oil burning issues. I feel for the guys who have to go thru it. Sounds like a pain.. Love this car..

if I were you I would just avoid the 2012 5.0
