  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

I sent an email to the General Manager of the Hyundai Dealer I have purchased
many cars from...I asked him if the dealership is going to sell the full line of the G series..................
Thank you for your inquire. At this time, Hyundai has not informed the dealers of the final requirements to carry the G line of vehicles. Current Equus dealers are the first wave of dealerships that will be contacted and signing up to carry the vehicles. When they start building the G80, G70, and others we will have more information. Without knowing all of the details, currently it is our intention to carry the line.

The current Genesis we are able to service and sell.

I hope this helps answer your question. Thank you for being a long time customer.

My Hyundai dealer (where I purchased my Genesis) is wedged into a tiny lot in a multi brand complex. Next door to Infiniti, Nissan, Rolls/Bentley and a Nissan work truck lot. The area is so small (and dangerous) with cars parked everywhere I cringe every time I have to visit the dealer. I asked about a dedicated Genesis lot a while back and they said no plans, but since the Rolls/Bentley store is building a bigger better store front away from the complex there might be room for Genesis to move into the existing building. This option would be the only way that I would purchase another Genesis. I'm not at all thrilled with the "Accent/Elantra" feel of my service dept. The reason I left Volvo was I was tired of tripping over Subaru drivers using the Volvo service line. For Genesis to work well they need dedicated everything like Acura/Lexus/MB and BMW.

When they start building the G80...
Apparently G80's are piling up at the port of entry on the west coast of the US right now, so they had better decide quickly.

I don't believe it's correct that the dealers don't know. For example, in the Houston area, North Freeway Hyundai is slotted to be one of the dealers. It could be a case of them not wanting to tell a customer "No".

I agree, I'm not a fan of the K-Mart feeling when I go to the service department. Even though I love my Genesis, I would be hesitant to purchase another without a dedicated dealership/service department. My experience at Lexus, Mercedes, & Acura (in that order) is/was head and shoulders above Hyundai.

My experience with Hyundai dealer has been very good. The showroom and service area was formally a M.B. store so it was already a classy place. They have enough room to add Genesis showroom. The dealer moved M.B. with other European makes in a different location

I got a card in the mail from them advertising the G90. I agree with you about the parking situation.

I saw a press release a couple of months ago that stated North Freeway Hyundai was awarded the first Genesis franchise in the nation.

Crusty -
what kind of tires are on these?
The G2 spec had changed to Michelin MXM4s for 3.8, and Conti Pro Contact on 5.0 V8s. The reason I ask is that one of the publicity shots clearly shows Hankook Ventus S1 Noble 2s on the 5.0 V8.

I'll stop by and check today to confirm. It took those pics several weeks ago.

Here's a pic I believe is from a 3.8 that I took several weeks ago. It has the Michelin tires on it.

No AWD means no sales in northern USA. Takes some big cojones to write off the eastern megalopolis, the big rust belt cities, and the upper midwest (Minn., Wisc.) Doesn't make much sense to me to restrict sales to just the western and southern coastal regions.

There will be AWD on the 3.8 for sure. They're not going completely away from it.

We're just wondering if there will be AWD on the 5.0 like the Canadians currently get but us in America don't.

Due to the difference in gas mileage of the Genesis AWD vs RWD models (much bigger difference than most other brands), we may not see any V8 AWD in the USA.

My guess is that most of the AWD models are going to ports on the east coast, rather then the port near LA mentioned above.

If it is feasible to provide the feature at all from an engineering/production perspective (and the Canadian model shows this to be so), yet the manufacturer decides NOT to market it in the USA which has a marked appetite for AWD, then some other calculus is at play.

The "natural" mix of RWD/AWD vehicles in the USA is well-known throughout the industry. Since Hyundai knows its total sales of 5.0 vehicles to Americans, it also knows how many of those cars "should" be AWD (i.e. people would buy as AWD, given the choice). Perhaps that number, combined with the additional sales that are currently lost to competitors' AWD offerings, is beyond the factory's capacity to produce, constrained by supplier components, assembly time, complexity, cost, etc. Surely, Marketing is and will continue to scream for the 5.0 AWD car to be made available in the USA, so the fact that it is not really must be due to some issue with the cost or process of its production.

Mark_888 brings up a good point that the U.S. government may have the deciding "vote" in the issue. Whenever something makes no sense from a pure supply and demand analysis, the government is sure to be involved...

so the fact that it is not really must be due to some issue with the cost or process of its production.
It's the MPG issue. The combination of V8 and AWD is just too much of a hit on fuel economy in the judgement of Hyundai Motor America.

For Canada, AWD is simply a requirement, regardless of the hit to MPG.

On most brands there is only a 1 MPG difference between AWD and RWD/FWD, but on the Genesis it is up to 4 MPG difference.

So others know, the fuel economy "hit" you mention is the one Hyundai takes on its performance to the U.S. government's strict CAFE standards, not the one the car buyer would take at the gas pump. Since Canadian sales are not constrained by the U.S. EPA and DOT, 5.0 AWD is available to that market.

I don't believe a prospective purchaser of the V8 AWD would be particularly concerned about paying the price required in fuel economy. If they had such a concern, they would simply choose the 3.8 AWD. I can't think of a worse choice than the 5.0 RWD for northern climes (more power, less traction).
