  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

As I hunted around I found that the genesis V8 got the 6HP26 transmission, I am curious if anyone knows why that model?

The 6HP26 design dates to 2001 but the 6HP28 is a more modern design.

6hp28 is still older than the Genesis (available in 2007) but ZF claims 50% faster shift times than the prior generation.

Was it cost or another reason?

Costs more, weighs more, and supports more torque. Maybe if the upcoming Tau is stronger, they'll use the 28, or even the 32/34 - But it's really not necessary on the current V8. It is so silky smooth right now, I'm satisfied.

I'm sure it's due to cost and the fact that it's an older, more proven design (though I believe both transmissions are closely related).

I'm really looking forward to the upcoming in-house developed 8 speed auto.

I am not unhappy with the tranny just a question, when the 6hp28 is the "new gen" tranny why was the 26 picked?

weight was one thought I had the 26 is about 9 pounds lighter and the front of the v-8 gen is heavy already.

I am interested to see how the 8SP performs and affects MPG
