  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Why has this car been such a mystery?

Hi all. I'm new to this forum but I have been considering the new Genesis 3.8 R Spec for several months. Problem is, this car is somewhat of a mystery. So far, no dealers in AZ or MA have been able to locate a car for a test drive. I've been on dealer test drive mailing lists for several months and dead silence.

Also, I've seen exactly 2 Genesis coupes in the last 3 months. Has this car's scarcity been a consequence of the Korean auto strikes and does anyone know when we should start seeing more imports?
TIA

One the gas mileage is not that good, the strike is holding them up, the demand is not there to sell and make a big dealer profit, and the dealers just don't care to sell them. It is a shame that you have to do all the work for the dealer that turns around and gets payed for what you have done. I am happy with mine, but when you go to try to sell it no one wants to buy it cause it is a Hyundai. The car company advertises cheaply looking cars, When you see them go done the road with the owners that do not take care of them, a lot I have seen are all beat to death. Not a very good image.

Looking to update and upgrade your Genesis luxury sport automobile? Look no further than right here in our own forum store - where orders are shipped immediately!
Welcome to the form and hopefully the Genesis owners club.
I live in west central Florida and there are Genesis all over the place here.
There are several in my immediate area alone.
As far as finding one to test drive that’s no problem here.
I suggest that you do a search on sites like www.cars.com or www.autotrader.com to find cars in your area for sale and dealers who have stock.
Hyundai Genesis seem to be holding their value pretty well in my area, because of the demand and the warrantee of 50K miles or 5 years bumper to bumper except electronics which has a 3 year warrantee which carries over to the new owner.
Good luck in your search and once you drive a Genesis you’ll be hooked. :p

I've seen several posts where folks said they were having a hard time getting their new Coupes. Some of the replies said it was due to the strike. Then again, when I bought my Coupe in April of 2011 the dealer told me the 2012's would not be at the dealers till some time in September. So it looks like Hyundai debuts their new models just a little later that some American car companies (got a new 2010 Ford Fusion in August of 2009 and the dealer had several of them).

Just recently a buddy of mine (and his wife) tried unsuccessfully to get a 3.8 Track Coupe in this area (Richmond, VA). The dealers told them there were none around here and no dealers in other areas that had one would transfer/let them go to another dealer (my dealer searched all over the east coast and only found 2 that met my needs (wants :D) when I bought mine last year and then had to do some trading to get it sent up here. My buddy had to drive down to Fayetteville, NC to buy his 3.8 Track.

As to the gas mileage - I've got a 6 speed manual and I just recorded the worst mileage I've had since I got the car 17 months ago - 20.8 mpg on the last fill up, for city driving. I usually get 22 to 24 mpg. Highway mileage was averaging around 25 to 25 mpg and on the last trip jumped up to 28.8 mpg (I'm assuming the engine/powertrain is finally starting to break in a little as I have almost 18,000 miles on it now.)

When I bought mine I told the wife it would be a "sometimes" car. I still don't drive it in the rain or snow but this week I pulled my logbook out of the IROC to see how many miles I'd put on it and if it was due an oil/filter change. I've put just under 900 miles on my 86 IROC since Oct. of 2010. I almost never drive it anymore. The electronics on the Coupe have spoiled me. I went to the DMV yesterday and put antique tags on the IROC.

Another way you can look for a Coupe is to go to the Hyundai website and "build/price" a new Coupe. You pick the model you want, the options you want (not many additional options since the options are part of the package/model you buy) and do a dealer search. If there are no coupes at the dealers in your area search different zip codes for surrounding towns and cities. Then you can see what is on the dealer's lots. Or at least you can in this area.

Good luck with your search. I'm still really liking my car.

Oh, funny story - my buddies new Coupe has a function that allowed him to set it up so he gets a text message every time the car exceeds 80 mph. He said he goes home almost every day and gives his wife a hard time about speeding while she's going to/form work and she doesn't know how he knows.
