  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Why does my car have the ability to connect to Wi-Fi networks when it does not seem to have the ability to do anything over wifi?

So one user on that thread says the Wi-Fi makes downloading updates faster…but is it even possible to download updates over Wi-Fi in a 2015 Genesis sedan? I haven't found a way to initiate such a download myself…

I imagine it is more for a dealer service than customer use.

If it could happen, I wouldn't expect blazing speed from it... note their decision to go with 3G modems in the telematics when 4G was in widespread use already.

I think that it was meant to D/L apps, which seemed to go nowhere. I actually got the car to join my home WiFi. It said there were no apps available.

Yes, my 2015 Chrysler 300S also had the agonizingly slow 3G modem. Really so slow as to be useless, as I believe I mentioned before.

I think I've had a similar experience in trying to download apps and assumed (or else the car told me) that you need BlueLink in order to do that, and based on everything I've read about BlueLink, I won't be dropping $179 a year for that

Unfortunately, Blue Link for these cars is dead - as they relied on now discontinued 3G cell service...

This is good to know. I was starting to think about aftermarket units that provide many of the benefits of Bluelink anyway...thank you very much for the clarification. 👍🏻🙏🏻
