  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

WiFi available?

I saw that...but out of the gate I don't trust it...as it IS INDEED Alexa compatible. I think Google Home as well.

that has nothing to do with wi-fi

Genesis (and most newer vehicles) have an LTE connection to their manufacturers systems. My G80 is Alexa compatible in the sense that Alexa has an app for Genesis and allows you to remote start the car via Alexa, nothing from Genesis indicates that any model has Alexa built into the car.

No...the fact that he listed it under Cons as non existing. If he got that wrong...who knows about the WiFi. Follow me?

nope don't get what you are asking..

car.com lists these as the existing models with Wi-Fi Hot Spots as of 7-2018, not a Hyundai on the list, and with the exception of a couple of MBZ models the list is the same as the 2017 list.

^ that list can't be complete because Ford has wifi hot spots in numerous vehicles starting in 2017

My 2015 will connect to wifi - who knows what it does though

yeah my 2018 does as well, but all it seems to do is work for the "connected apps" in which there is only one, the notifications app for valet mode.

also here is the dealer brochure and I don't see anything about Wi-Fi in it either:

no clue just did a quick google for 2018 Wi-Fi connected vehicles.

Pretty sure it doesn't have it. Everything I've read has stated that it doesn't.

Someone should try (with the car running) to see if any WiFi connections become available on their phone when close to the car.

Also...deep digging into the menus, etc.

Yes, sitting in your driveway or the dealer shop you can download some apps. It is not a hotspot when underway though.

No, not available on G80

to what end? there is ZERO literature anywhere that any model Genesis has a Wi-Fi Hot Spot and multiple reviews cite it as one of the "cons" to the G70 when compared to competitor models.

It doesn't exist, it isn't available, no one has it. really not a hard concept to grasp. and even it did have a wi-fi hotspot, that is no guaranty that wireless carplay would work, it would also need to have wireless video mirroring hardware is well, a wi-fi is only part of the equation for wireless carplay.

and it is beyond me why anyone would want their car to be a wi-fi hotspot. the average cost is around $50 a month for 5gb.. I get UNLIMITED bandwidth for $20 a month with a Verizon hot-spot that I can take anywhere and am not limited to ~100 ft. around my car.

And with a $40 dual band high gain car antenna it works everywhere, I drove cross country (CA to TN to GA) 2 years ago and never lost signal to Netflix for my kid in the back seat, even in BF no-where in southern GA where I drove for 90 minutes without seeing another car or house, only farmland.

Yeah...the hotspot thing is just a marketing gimmick. Stupidity. I’m more inquiring because of CarPlay, etc.

Oh well...bummer.

yeah the sucky part is you can't have one without the other and to get wireless carplay you'll end up with a subscription of $50 a month to pay for the wi-fi.

in the long run it would be cheaper to get one of these:
2014 - 2017 Hyundai Equus Video In Motion Bypass

and one of these:
PTV888 Car WiFi Display Dongle Wired & Wireless Mirroring System Receiver 5G / 2.4G WiFi Linux System Airplay Mirroring Miracast DLNA Airsharing HD 1080P for HDTV Smart Phones Notebook Tablet PC Sales Online - Tomtop

and make a DIY wireless carplay, once someone makes a G70 Video Bypass.
