  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

In two weeks, I have had near misses and hits with wildlife. Two dogs and a deer have all tried their best to tear up the front end of my car. Unlike the previous incidents that were near misses, this poor dog did get hit. Fortunately he wasn't too harmed as he was able to run off after the tumble and my Genesis took no damage. Brakes work really good and love having a dash cam just in case.

P.S. I have no issue supporting the site by disabling ad block but seeing a Volvo ad inside my post was weird.

Well - at least you could drive away. This is from my only contact encounter in 2009... I literally cried that day. Only had the 7 for 3 weeks & at the time it was a "dream car" that had finally come true. Bought it used for a song - and it got totaled as a result. :'(

No doubt that a deer is my worst nightmare in terms of animals darting across the road. The same thing happened to my mom's Lexus 8 years ago and it too was totaled.

I'm just glad the dog seemed to be okay (I'm a huge dog lover) and my car was unharmed. We already lost our car once for three weeks because of truck tread.

ouch... I have hit several deer here in AR but never had a car totaled from it.

Monolith, sorry to hear about the dog and the car. Srobak wow it's hard to imagine that's a total loss. It looks mostly cosmetic, with perhaps a radiator needing replacement? I wonder what the repair estimate was...

Yeah the 03 7 series packed all the electronics up front. That and of course they were "BMW Priced". Just the left headlight assembly would have cost $1600 - less the harness. :O

I got it for a song back in 09 (36k) and the (shitty) insurance company I had at the time knew it. It had 88k on it and the economy had just gone into the shitter (which is how I managed to steal the car in the first place - the trader I got it from was hurting for cash and luxobarge book values were plummeting as well). When the first non-bmw body shop estimate came in at 28k I know the jig was up. Sure enough the insurance company paid off my loan, said "F U no car!" and then further screwed me by dropping me outright immediately after. The damage that alone did to my insurability prompted a lawsuit against them to remove the ding from my insurance history report.

Side note: If at all possible - you never, EVER want it recorded that an insurance company dropped you. Always drop them first. Otherwise it is the kiss of death and you are gonna have a hard time insuring so much as a poster of your car.

You were probably better off totaling the 7. Somewhat kidding.
That model year was notorious for electronic gremlins. Buddy of mine had same body style and it was a financial nightmare for him.

Yeah, I did find out about that later, and I am indeed thankful. Fast forward to a couple months ago....

My choices were down to a 2012 7 series or a CPO G2. It was back and forth for a bit... but when I found the CPO I got - I had to take it. It was just so much more bang for the buck with lower miles and an excellent warranty (not that there is anything wrong with Carmax's). The sacrifice was going to a notably smaller car - but it is still plenty big and sizes up great against a 5.
