If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Canada discontinuted 4.6 this year compared to USA still keeping them till next year.
It seems there will be only v6 3.8 and 5.0 R-spec next year if they go similar to Canada right now.

Will this cause 4.6 to drop significant value coming summer 2012 like all discontinued model/trim did in the past?

Anyone know of the Canada's current 2011 4.6 in this pattern?

Hyundai Canada is currently offer a $4000.00 discount for both the 3.8 and 4.6 2011 Genesis.

??? what?

i would think that 4.6 value would increase because the ride would be more comfortable than the R spec, and some people just prefer how the v8 feels compared to the v6. even though the new GDI v6 is improved, it still is no match for the 4.6 in terms of refinement and effortless power.

Maybe I'm just naive but I think you should buy a car because it's the right car for you, not because it might depreciate $1K more than another model several years down the road.

Depreciation is one thing. Getting your car fixed is another. End trim/models have that problem where slowly it will be harder and harder to find parts for repair. Even though Hyundai have 10/100 warranty, if you have to wait for weeks to repair your car, that will be pretty frustrating thing to go through.
Leasing or frequent car traders don't have to worry about that though.

This is car logistics 101 stuff. Every manufacturer has to deal with models that end production. Do you think that any Honda engine/transmission/body from 7 years ago is still being manufactured? Of course not. It's just standard procedure to manufacture spares every year plus at the end of a product's life.

So what are you really getting at? I did said you can get the parts, except it may take few more days/weeks.

Both Canada and USA got new facelift and GDI engines. US still has 4.6 for some reason unknown.

If Hyundai wanted to update the genesis line, fine. But they should've updated it all together.
What I believe 12' 4.6 is in weird spot since it has previous trim engine but facelift and soon to be discontinued year after.Who really wants to buy a discontinued line of car unless they are looking for deals late 2012?

As you said earlier, huge discount for this trim is given and it actually might make sense to buy end of next year if you don't need it asap.

Who wants to? Maybe me, depending on the ride of the R-Spec. I've read mixed reviews; some have said that it has a flinty, jouncy ride. If that's the case, I'll happily fall back to the 4.6 and its more comfortable ride.

No, I didn't say huge discount for this trim was given. I said not to worry about a hypothetical loss of value years into the future. Obviously we're not going to agree. I think your worry is completely unfounded. Every car gets discontinued at some point. Letting that drive your new car purchase decision seems completely ass-backwards to me. But do whatever you feel comfortable with.

You do know there is that v6 that has same suspension feel as 4.6? Since they introduced 3.8 GDI, there is really no reason to go for 4.6 unless you really like having a V8 or need that few ponies and some torque.

I am sorry that you feel that way. Whether you agree with me or not, discount is gonna happen on 4.6 (like all the other cars did) and even you know it.
Actually, I don't care about residual value but knowing that I will be getting on last train for 4.6, I am outta there. I'll rather seriously consider 12' 3.8 (Comfy ride) or 12' R-spec(jouncy ride? we'll see). Because I know they will be keeping them alive for a while.

Another good example similar to this is.
Buying an iphone 4 right now is plain stupid:rolleyes:.
Everyone knows iphone 5 will be coming soon and there is no reason to buy them now. Maybe one reason to buy is AFTER iphone 5 launches, you may get iphone 4 cheaper than they listed before.

it's going to get the detuned 5.0, big deal. maybe it will have a couple hp and lb ft of torque difference but the 4.6 has been around for 4 model years now. i think there is a law that says mfr's have to continue to make parts for a certain number of years after they're discontinued. R-Spec is going to drive completely different, no doubt.

I keep on saying...I know you will have parts (there is a law that any car makers even ones that no longer make cars must have 10 years of previous car's parts available), just not readily available everywhere years down the road compared to other trims.

Not sure what you are talking about detuned 5.0
If they trend what Canada is doing, there might be no V8 except R-spec...
