  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Hello All
I have a 2015 Genesis 5.0 Ultimate and noticed that at speeds exceeding 70 mph there is a noticeable wind noise developing around driver's side B pillar area. I have inspected the weather-strips around the drivers door, everything is OK
The dealer states this is because of the very design of this car and is absolutely normal. I personally disagree with this. Anyone experiencing the same issue?
Thanks you for your comments/suggestions

If the wind is blowing the right direction from 35-70 MPH I get a faint whistle near the drivers window. I think it has something to do with the geometry with how the window meets the door frame at the top. I noticed I can make it mostly go away if i every so slightly move the drivers side window down.

The dealer states this is because of the very design of this car and is absolutely normal.

so the car was designed to have wind noise above 70 mph...why do they say stupid crap like this. perhaps your door is slightly out of alignment? i can't say i've noticed any abnormal wind noise at those speeds...even with a strong crosswind.

I have the exact same problem. Bought mine brand new and now have 4000 miles and I have noticed since day 1. I haven't talked to dealer yet, but that wind noise is pretty bad especially when you go 70 mph or higher. I would definitely like to hear what other people have to say

As I stated before, I believe that this level of wind noise is not acceptable.
I came from a 2013 Genesis R-Spec sedan which was a lot quieter at that speed.

I have now issues with my 5.0 Ultimate. Nice an quiet at 80 :D I do know the loaner car my dealer gave me when I had a couple of recalls taken care of, that it had significant more road noise than mine at those speeds. It was a lower end 3.8 2015 Genesis. It didn't have the heads up display or control knob on the console for the infotainment system.

I have the same exact issue on driver side at 70+ mph. I tried using "blue painters" tape around all the seals, windows, B-pillars, cowl, front windshield area, etc. The sound doesn't go away. Compared to the left passenger side the noise is "slightly" louder wind noise. My only conclusion is noise coming from wind 70+ mph at the mirror. I did take to dealer to diagnose (with me as passenger and switched sides to compare noise level) but they could not locate issue. Dealer said they could have window installer re-seal front window. I personally don't think re-sealing will remedy the issue. I have yet to get this done. I did have cowl cover recall/replacement service done. Still have same issue.

I'm hoping to have access to a air compressor and shoot direct air via hose onto drivers side window, pillars and mirror. Maybe I can locate noise causing area.

Wind noise is tolerable but I would rather be whisper quiet like passenger side!!!

Heck I have had mine up to the speed limiter at 150 mph and no wind noise whatsoever. ;) Actually quite quiet and serene.

Same issue, service tech said it's something to do with the wind hitting the side mirror.

Just like the others, I don't let it bother me and turn up the beats.

wind noise at 70 mph is called driving at 70 mph. sorry.
(speed limit here is 70 which means 79, i'm not gonna be thrilled when i hear this either, but c'mon...)

I'm positive there is wind noise at 150 mph - I personally know there is some at 110 mph. All cars have wind noise - some much more than others. The Genesis is no exception to the laws of aerodynamics - but it's a very quiet car with respect to wind noise at all speeds compared to other cars I've driven.

does folding in the side mirrors take care of the issue?

I think that would make it worse - I'd bet they are aerodynamically designed with the intent to be deployed at speed and not folded.

If folding them changes the wind noise, that might give a clue to the cause.

one would hope the side mirrors are designed to minimize wind noise when not folded. but folding them in at speed might help (or not) rule them out.

Good point and worth trying - as long as the new noise from a folded mirror doesn't just drown out the old noise, it could help diagnose the issue (especially if you can still hear the old noise as then you'll know it's not the mirror).
