Window tinting advice?

I've tinted hundreds of cars and have never experienced this situation before, nor have met anyone who has.

I'm sure it's possible, but who knows

So... it sounds like 35% ceramic is very popular, and good for keeping heat out.

I'm in Florida, and keeping heat out is very important.

Personally, I'm even more concerned about night vision. I'm a long way past "young" and night vision gets worse as you get older.

Should I just forget about tinting this car, or.... what do you recommend, given night vision is my 1st priorty, heat resistance my 2nd, and "privacy" rates a distant 3rd?

I have 35% ceramic all the way around on my car with a black interior. Not sure if this is the case with all ceramic tint but it creates a nice illusion, in the sense when you are inside the car looking out, it doesn't look very dark, but when you are outside looking in the tint appears to be darker. I also have a metallic sunshade for the windshield, coupled with the rear sunshade; the car still gets hot in the summer, there's no getting around that, but it's less worse, and I'm sure it helps keep the leather looking great not having direct sunlight on it.
I was considering getting the 20% on the back windows, as that is the legal limit here. The installer, suggested against it for 4 reasons.
-Going from 35 to 20% will not make the car demonstrably cooler.
-You have a back window screen already,
-having the tint all one color creates symmetry across the entire car, so aesthetically it's nicer.
-Also it will not affect night vision.
I'm very glad I listened to him , as night vision is not compromised at all.

When I did mine, I cut around the light since Hyundai did a great job in mounting it at the bottom of the window vs. other cars that have a gap.

Precut? Sure grade "B" film off ebay

Precut film is something that the consumer would purchase themself (and over-priced) and also install on their own. Also, usually low quality film.

Stop with generalizations ! I did not buy off ebay.......had it done in a high end shop

Obviously, you are in the business, but where I live some of the high-end shops have the film cut by a computer controlled machine to templates for each car. Not sure where they get the templates.

Some window tinting companies do have the computer program and the specific cutter needed for pre-cutting the film. I've do not know of any companies in my area that use this, due to it's high cost, which in some cases is passed on to the consumer.

I looked into this technology, and crapped when I saw the price. Thank God I've had 10 years experience installing film and cutting the film for each individual application, so I save a ton of money, and use high quality film and have some of the best prices around in my area.

I'm able to get the machine through my film supplier, but they don't sell many due to the price. I wouldn't be interested.

One thing I've learned in window tinting is that nearly no two windows or window frames are identical.

I have tried a system where I can make a template of the window(s) on a vehicle, but soon realized that one window may be perfect and the other window might have a small gap from where the film ends on the window.

I've noticed this is the case the older a vehicle gets.

Maybe when the price drops on this machine, I would suck it up and purchase one, on the assumption that the cuts on the film might be better and also save me a ton of time for the entire job. Time will tell.

Dealers don't do tinting. They farm it out to tint shops, and they get what they pay for (probably not much in the case of most Hyundai dealers) just like when a consumer gets an after-market tint job.

I don't even pretend to know your business but I can't imagine how it would look if an amateur freehand cut this stuff ...much less the damage to the trim aroundthe window... I was actually amazed to see how the machines work!

Well I stopped by a tint shop yesterday and does a lot of business in the area and have been around for a long time. The guy told me that the tint would cover the break light. I think I would prefer it not to cover it but what are my choices. I'll check around a couple other companies in the area.

So how many people have the break light cut out? I only saw one post from GripperDon and ScottDK.

Mine is covered. At 30% VLT, there are no problems with seeing the center brake lights through the tint, even during the day. They're dimmer than the the tail lights, but then again, those LEDs are brighter than the sun. I also think that it might look strange to have a dark tint with the brake light area untinted.

Mine is covered as well using Formula 1 50%. Done by a pretty high end installer here in ATL.

I just checked and mine is covered also (Formula One Pinnacle 50% VLT). I think it depends somewhat on the car as to whether they would cut around it.
