  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

I am now looking at getting a black with beige interior. I am thinking about getting the windows tinted. I spoke to a company that just does tinting. They said that ceramic tinting has a brown cast and wouldn't look good on a black car. They recommended something else that I can't remember. For those with experience, what do you recommend? Also, would it be better to get the dealer to do this as part of the negotiation and if so what type should I go for. Finally, about what does this cost, ie what should I be negotiating for? Thanks for any advice.

I went with an experienced industry leader, 3M Window Tint which many dealers use.

I have always used a place that only does window tinting. It has always been a perfect job. I wouldn't trust the dealer as they will use the least expensive place they can. A bad tint job looks awful. My place only uses LLumar films.

Ceramic tint is just a type of heat reflection not a color, you can get ceramic in any % of light passthrough you want. my car has 15% ceramic which should give me the ultimate in heat rejection and very good privacy.

Ceramic tint tends to have better heat rejection than comparable non ceramic tint. I even did a clear tint on my windshield.

I had Huper Optik ceramic tint on my Lincoln LS (50% sides, 35% rear). It was a nice, non-reflective charcoal tone. I never noticed any brown tint, but it was a brown car with beige interior which might make a slight brown cast (if there were any) less noticeable.

The tint on my Genesis was installed at the dealer before I bought it. All of their work is done by a local tint shop using Llumar tint with lifetime warranty.

Here is my car after tinting

My last car was tinted with Suntek Carbon XP. Very good tint. Getting ready to take my new ride in for the same treatment!

I know you said the front windshield is clear but is it truly clear? Wouldn't mind a picture if you have one.

Going to tint my windows and back glass this weekend with Suntek HP Bronze 40%. Will post a picture once I have it completed.

The Clear stuff I have seen (in ceramic) is greater then 70% light pass through, which is about what oem glass is as well.

I don't think the windshield tint will show up on a picture. I can see a very slight color difference when I compare the cutout by the inspection sticker to the rest of the windshield, but this will not show in a picture. I tinted the windshield to reduce the heat load on the car in TX. I still use a sunshade on the windshield.

Here is how the Florida law is written.

Tint darkness for sedans:
•Windshield: Non-reflective tint is allowed above the manufacturer's AS-1 line.
•Front Side windows: Must allow more than 28% of light in.
•Back Side windows: Must allow more than 15% of light in.
•Rear Window: Must allow more than 15% of light in.

Wish that was the percentages for NC. It is 35% for all windows and rear windshield. Nothing below AS-1 Line.
