  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Does anybody get the Equus tinted? I went to a shop, they told me in order to tint the rear window, and the rear seat and the rear panel have to be removed first before they can access to the rear window. After I heard that, I am hesitate to move forward, I am afraid they might break something during the process.

I wouldn't touch anything without checking with Hyundai first. I have no idea what's involved with "Solar/Accoustic" lamination (Equus windows), but I wouldn't take any chances without their approval/expertise.

Tinting laminated windows on a vehicle is no different then standard glass. I'm assuming they don't want to F Up the interior possbily......who knows.

I had the windows tinted on my Equus with no problems. Went through the dealer just to avoid any issues, cost me $300 and the installer did not have to tear the back apart at all. GPS / XM and radio reception is strong, absolutely no issues at all.

WOW... that looks amazing! 30%?

Yes, 30%. Looks a little darker because it was cloudy when I took the photo. It is an amazing car. Previously had an Audi A8L, worst car I ever had. Beautiful and luxurious car but an absolute electrical nightmare. Had to be towed 5 times in 3 years. Could never trust it to use on long business trips.

Am now a big Hyundai fan, wife has a Genesis that has been absolutely flawless. Never got as many positive comments on any vehicle I ever owned as I do with the Equus. I removed the leaning 'H' and 'Equus' from the trunk lid for aesthetic reasons but as a result no-one knows what kind of car it is. They are floored when I tell them it's an Hyundai.

eidderfliw, beautiful tint job on the black color. did you have the dealer cut out the tint film for the third brake light on the rear windshield? My shop guy told me the gap between the third brake light and the rear windshield is too small, he can't fit the cleaning tool there to clean the area for tinting.

Awesome! Thx for sharing!

OMG, that is exactly how I feel about my VW! An electrical nightmare. PERFECT. I've probably replaced two dozen various bulbs on this car in 9 years. EASY.

So you know... the A8 has pretty much been my dream car - seems like I made a good decision in buying a new Genny instead of a used A8!!! Thanks for the info.

No tint on the rear brake light. Not sure if it is the black color and the tint combination but the rear brake, when not engaged is barely visible I find. I'd take a photo and show you but the car is at the dealership getting it's first oil change. BTW, having someone come and pick up the car and the level of communication and service I have received from the dealership has been great.

The A8L was my dream car until I got it! It's the old 'careful what you wish for...' In Canada we have no lemon laws so I was left with little recourse legally. Kept the car until the warranty ended. I was at the dealership so often , they wanted to start charging me rent!

Very smart to get the Genny, much better value and in my opinion and experience, much more reliable.

I got my windows tinted as well after thinking about it. While I like the shades, I didnt want to have them up all the time. In South Texas it gets pretty hot so I got the tint as I have done with most of my other cars here.

White car with black tint windows looks incredible.. I can post some photos later today.....

Unfortunately, the best looking tint films (usually smoked) are not the best "performing" films (but performance is probably not an issue for the Toronto poster above). If you live in the south or where there is intense sunlight, then I would highly recommend a ceramic tint film. That being said, I can't tell for sure what kind of film eidderfliw in Toronto actually has on his car.

On my Genesis, they removed the rear headrests to do the tint job, which is probabably fairly common for some cars. I doubt they would have to remove the entire rear seat.

Got it tinted today. Looks awesome. 50% front, 35% rear and two windows. I own this horse for 6 months. No problem at all, enjoy driving it everyday.

I'm scheduled to have 3m Crystalline put on my Genesis on Tuesday. I'm doing 40% on the sides/back and 70% on the front (I live in Arizona and am more concerned about reducing heat -- I don't really care about "dark tint").

Is putting 50 on the front windshield noticeable? (70 is virtually invisible so you can get away with it in this state).

Here are the Heat Gain Reduction numbers for the 3M films you are looking at:

CR40 - 50%
CR50 - 46%
CR60 - 42%
CR70 - 38%

Given these numbers, I personally would go with CR70 on the front windshield, since there is not much additional Heat Gain Reduction benefit with the CR50. Maybe CR60 at most on the front windshield.

I don't think it is very easy to remove films from front the front or rear glass, due to the black dots on both (and defroster/antenna on the rear), so choose carefully.

Thanks for the feedback. Based on the numbers I think I will stick with the plan of 40 and 70. (I want it as clear as possible on the front for obvious reasons). I'll give a report later this week after we have it installed. (With our record temps I wish I would have had it down a few weeks ago)!
