  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Well, it happened! I've had my Genesis for less than three months and on the way to work Wednesday, a passing SUV throw a rock. The crack is almost in the line of sight. Yesterday, I had the crack filled. The repair looks great from the outside, it's still very noticeable on the inside. I knew there would be some residual damage visible, I was hoping it would be less. I've had other windshields repaired with greater luck. I'm thinking about having the glass replaced. I was wondering if anyone else who owes an Ultimate (windshield mounted cameras) had issues with that equipment working correctly after the replacement?

Give it a few weeks. You probably won't notice it. Right now you're obsessing over it. I had a stone hit my windshield too at eye level. After repair I kept looking for it. Pretty soon I forgot about it and moved on to life's other annoyances. I've also had a scratch in one eyeglass lens for two years. After the first month it didn't bother me anymore.

Also, you have acoustically-laminated glass so that might be a consideration in replacement cost.

Regardless of which repair facility you use, they probably will have to get the OEM windshield from Hyundai. Earlier model Genesis windshields with acoustic lamination and automatic rain sensing wipers, were over $1000 retail. The 2015 is probably a little higher.

I had mine replaced this past May when it got hit by a rock. The dealer referred me to local windshield repair place who coordinated the repair with my insurance company. As an earlier poster correctly stated, the glass had to come from Korea. Luckily for me, the glass company found a windshield at another local dealer.

This is where a good auto policy really pays off. The total cost of the repair (per the invoice from the glass company) was $2236.32. I paid my $51 deductible. All of the nifty stuff in and around the glass really bumps up the cost!

Regarding your question about everything working correctly after the repair, I'm happy to report that everything has continued to work flawlessly. I'm certain that this is because an OEM glass was used. I'm sure no guarantees come with work done by the Mrs. Grace L. Ferguson Airline and Storm Door Company.

"Mrs. Webb, how fast were you going when Mr. Adams (your driving instructor) jumped from the car?"

Mine got a rock crack last summer. Had it patched but the crack is still there (inside I guess) and while it feels smooth on the outside, it gives me a little star like glitter when driving towards the sun when the sun is at the right (wrong??) angle.

I talked to the insurance company (completely paid for the patch/glue/repair) and they've told me it I'm not happy they'll pay (minus my deductible) for the replacement with OEM glass.

Not sure if all the insurance companies understand that glass is not always the same in all cars.

The crack has not gotten larger since the repair. Still very annoying since it's in my line of sight. I don't think I'll do anything unless the crack becomes longer. I will have to replace the glass at trade-in time/lease turn it time. It's a while before that time arrives.

If you're going to have to replace it anyway, why give someone else the benefit, fix it now and have the pleasure of a crack free window for the duration of your lease.

Another "old fart" like me who remembers the good times!!

Rejoice, Dear Hearts!!

I doubt many whippersnappers here even bothered to listen to the You Tube vid. That would require an 8 minute attention span.
