  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

I just had my windshield tinted to 70% (live in fl). The rest of my windows have a 35%. I'm liking the results and I also don't notice a negative difference at night. Tech said it should significantly reduce glare at night and reduce cabin heat from the sun.

After-market tinting of the windshield is illegal (except for about the top 6 inches along the top) but it is almost impossible for anyone to detect a high quality 70% tint film, especially when the rest of the car is 35%. But some states have inspection, registration, and other stickers that go on the windshield, making it not always feasible in those situations.

Yep, I went in with the tech giving me full disclosure. FL doesn't have inspections and there is no way you could tell just by looking from the outside.

In states like Texas, they even have the yearly license renewal sticker inside the windshield, because there were so many thefts of the ones they used to put on the license plate itself.

Most people want to increase night time vision, not reduce the amount of light they see by 30%.

Most law-abiding folks use sunglasses.

You wear sunglasses while driving at night?? Talk about a death wish! ;)

Seriously, we're talking about a very light tint. I live in an urban area where Street lights and on coming traffic are guaranteed. I often find it harder to see at night with those conditions and actually expect visibility to improve by removing glare.

Just saying, whether it was much to you or not, 70% tint still means almost a third of visible light is filtered out. :p

I have had tinted windshields for literally decades now. My preference is 60% semi-reflective ceramic film.

Yes, while windshield tint is illegal, I see a huge benefit in cutting interior heat, and glare from oncoming headlights. Increased driver comfort and visibility are beneficial to the safety of everyone on the road.

I am with Jutdean on the fact that I also have noticed no decrease in night time visibility, and it is undetectable to passengers as well.

70% tint is damn near clear. No one would even know your windshield is tinted unless you told them;) The Genesis has a factory tint on all the windows, but the windshield measures out to around 80%.

EDIT -

Not going to lie, I want my windshield tinted just because I saw this thread!

FWIW, in Florida it is possible to get a medical exemption from the winshield tint law. It requires about the same effort as getting a permanent disability parking tag.

Probably the same in most states. Just go to dermatologist and have them certify that you are at a higher risk to skin cancer.

Ooooo, I like that idea. Seems like a lame excuse, but if it's legal ... :D

Actually, skip the skin doc and head to the eye doc. It's easier to get a tint exemption with eyes sensitive to light, sunlight and headlights since even a clear film can block 99.9% of the harmful sun rays, which the skin doc might even mention. In MN the medical exemption must state the actual VLT the doc approved, and the paper must be kept in the glove box. You wouldn't believe how many 5.0's have dark "legal" tint on their personal vehicles:)

After a week of driving with the tint, I have to say I love it. I doubt I will ever own another car without having it done (as long as I am in FL at least). We've had bright sunny (80+ degree days) and its a noticeable difference in cabin temp and glare.

Nighttime driving has been fine too.

I'm with ya'. I live in SC and it gets VERY hot here too. I have noticed a very big difference in the reduction of glare additionally how much cooler the interior is even though I have black interior.

Whoever said most peeps get tint to reduce night time glare(?) welllllllll I think NOT.
