  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

I am trying to buy winter tires and rims for my 2012 4.6. Thanks to all of the helpful threads I had settled on a 17" tires (225:55:17?; Blizzak WS70s or ContiExtremes).

According to Tire Rack no 17" wheels fit on the 2012 Genesis 4.6 or 5.0s. Can this be true? I recall reading that the 2012 Genesis 4.6 has larger brakes than the 2011 model.

We do not have any recommended 17" fitments. Most likely there isn't enough clearance for the brake caliper or bushing on the 2012 models.

I also spoke with Julian (from the RSpec winter tire thread) and he confirmed that no 17" wheels fit. Has anyone had any luck with 17" wheels on a 2012 4.6 model?

To the best of my knowledge 17" will not fit on the 4.6 due to the brake clearance. They barley fit the 3.6 which has just slightly smaller brakes.

17in will fix on the 46. You must be careful to get the right rims (they must flair out the spokes slightly). I documented the requirements in a post 2 years ago.

both tireRack and DiscountTire have these correct specs if you order through those channels..

Unfortunately, that is only true for 2011 and earlier models. The 2012 models all have larger brakes. Buying 18" tires is not a much fun! Hopefully, I won't be locked into 235/50/18. If yes, no Conti and my only Blizzak choice (per Tirerack) is the LM60. I am checking with them now.

Delph, thanks for the response.

You may also want to consider the Michelin X-Ice Xi2 from Tire Rack. Another very good tire.

Agree, but not for the 2012. The only passenger car winter tires that TireRack carries that fits the 2012 4.6 are the Blizzak LM-60's and the Pirelli Winter 240's. That is it.

Although not available from Tirerack, there are other choices in 235-50-18 such as the Michelin X-Ice Xi2, Dunlop Winter Sport 3D, Falken Eurowinter HS439, Yokohama W.Drive, Hankook Icebear W300, and Goodyear Ultra Grip Performance 2.

Thanks. I am on a mission to find a Michelin X-Ice Xi2 in 235-50-18. No luck so far on-line. I think that I'll hit the brick and mortar shops on Friday.

Costco should have them.

I did an exhaustive search for Michelin X-Ice 1 & 2 in 19". Found out they are listed in both Costco and TireRack "catalogs", but are not being produced. Period. Seems there was an early intent to produce these tires in 19" size, which was revoked after Costco's and TireRack's internal computer programming had loaded them as available.
I know you are looking for 18" Ice, but write this just to advise you of this production change, which may include 18" as well as 19". Suggest you talk to a supervisor at TireRack or someone at Costco who is willing to call the Michelin dealer hotline for confirmation.

Thanks, I will try that. Costco doesn't have the '18". According to tire rack, ContiExtremes will be available next year. I may just hold out with my all seasons for this winter.
