  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Own 3.8 l with Tech pkg. Winter has arrived in Canada and my first rear wheel drive needs snow tires. Car was purchased with 20" rims and Falken low profile tires. Now understand I need 4 new rims (17 0r 18") with medium priced quality snows which is about to cost me $1900.00
Bulk of the price ($235.00 ea ) is for the rims. A conventional rim is about $95.00 but does not have sufficient offset to clear brake assembly. Anyone have a cheaper solution? Would rather put savings from cheaper rims into Nokia set of tires.

Plenty of options offered in other threads for Canada,

If you drop down to 17 you could get that price close to 1200 C$.
discounttiredirect.com offers packages

in the us tirerack.com served me well,

a nice set of rims and performance snows for about 1000 USD.

I like Blizzaks , LM series.

I'll second wally's post above. I put 4 new Blizzak snow tires on with four new 17" wheels (looks almost like stock) from TireRack.com. Didn't go with the TPMS sensors (extra $250 installed). I'll live with the light on the dash.

$1900?!

I think my dad got his from the Hyundai dealer for ~$1300-1400 (CAD) last year. Fast alloy wheels (the only available option from that dealer last year), and 4 Continental ContiVikingContact 3s. This is in the 17" size (225/55R17 IIRC? whatever the 17" stock tire size is): you do NOT want to go to 18". 18" will require a far more expensive, "winter performance" tire.

The Genesis is no longer brand spanking new, so I'd assume you could do better nowadays. Last year, tire shops seemed to be unable to get rims for the car...

I finally decided i could not stand my Azera any more . Was the worst Hyundai i ever owned . I traded in my XG350L for it . BIG MISTAKE. Traded in the Azera for a 2009 Genesis3.8 with premium package plus.In sapphire blue, black interior without the fake crappy wood dash trim. I drove the car off the lot only to return it the next day cause the rotors were warped. Had stupid service manager tell me there was no way they were warped only to have him call me back the following mourning apologizing to me they were warped. While it was there i told them the easy exit feature was not working only to have him and several sales jerks tell me the car did not have that function. I got on the phone to Hyundai filed a complaint only to find out the car does have that function . It comes shipped from Korea with it deactivated. The dealers have to use Hyundai GDS system to turn it on . I went to two different dealers only to have them tell me they could not turn it on, the car did not have that feature. I had to call Hyundai back to file a second complaint and was told to take to a different dealer and tell them use the GDS look for car settings and there they will find the directions on how to activate the feature. Yes it works now after two dealers told me no not on this car. My only beef has always been the dealers don't know anything about the cars Hyundai makes and that will never change. This car is 100 percent better then the Azera , the XG350 L , and the Sonata i owned. I LOVE THIS CAR. I just wish Hyundai would drill into there people what there cars features have and how to turn them on and off.

My Orlando Dealer has a Technician who does all the Genesis work. He only works on other Hyundais when there is no Genesis in the shop for service. I.E., he is the Genesis trained Technician who is the only one who works on Genesis'.

HE KNOWS WHAT HE IS DOING!

I'm also surprised that your Genesis came with warped rotors. Bet that car was driven by a "hot rod Lot Boy" who drove it hard, before you bought it.

Here is one reason for warped rotors. When a car is driven hard, or just when you must come to a hard fast stop, the brake pads and rotors get HOT. While you sit at a stop light, with your foot on the brake, the rotors get HEAT SOAK, from the hot pads, and that one area of the rotor stays much hotter than the area of the rotor that is not under the pads. When you keep your foot on the brake after a hard fast stop, often enough, the rotors get heat warped.

I have not had warped rotors in years. (Yes, I'm an old guy). What I do is when I come to a hard fast stop, (at a stop light or stop sign), I allow the car to roll very slightly, so the heat from the hot brake pads do not soak only on one spot on the rotor. If I am in a position where I can't let the car roll slightly at a stop, I just shift the car into Neutral, and although the pads are still in contact with the rotor, they are not in hard contact with the rotors. Doing this for years and I can't remember when I last had warped rotors.
