  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Hi All,

My 2015 Genesis is my third (09 V6 and 12 V8) and I've used the same stock V8 set of wheels with winter tires on each car. My 2015 is the FIRST Genesis that has TPMS. I've never had that on my other models and do not have sensors in the winter wheels. What happens if I use these wheels without sensors? Will it drive the car's computer nuts??

No but every time you turn the car on it will give you a warning and it stays in the middle of the cluster until you hit the menu page. Also the orange light with the tire symbol is annoying. After my first winter, I needed new tires so I bought sensors. They are dirt cheap on eBay for brand new ones(~$125 for all fours if you msg the sellers)

Never installed tire pressure monitors on winter tires for my '09 and '16 sedans and found that the only downside was that little yellow light. There is no audible warning and beyond the warning light, both cars operated normally. There are some on this forum who will spend whatever it takes so all is perfect, but my goal is to drive safely during the winter months (especially where I live in the Great Lakes snow belt). I'd rather use my money to get a high quality tire than worry about a yellow light (and spending an additional $200 for tire pressure monitors). In response to your question, unless your unable to tolerate that yellow tire symbol on the dash, winter tires w/o tire pressure monitors work as well as those with monitors. In fact, someone mentioned that that Canada-spec models don't have TPMS,but Canadians must, by law, install winter tires each year. So presumably, the Canadian government values the benefit of the latter over the former.

All Gen-2 Genesis cars in Canada have TPMS. The Gen-1 cars did not. Not all Provinces require us to fit winter tires by law, but undoubtedly it is a very good idea, even though all Gen-2 cars here are HTRAC-AWD.

As mentioned the only issue is the warning light. It cannot be disabled, even by the dealer.

Correct - I don't know of anywhere other than Quebec that requires it, but it's definitely not nation-wide. I'll be looking to get a set of rims and winter tires in the next couple weeks.

I made the investment back in 09 when purchasing my first Genesis of purchasing a set of "take off" 18" wheels and tires from California. Stripped the tires off the rims and installed winter tires on them. Now on my second set of winters on these rims. Safety with winter tires is paramount, but the aluminum wheels do take a beating with all the sand, salt, and crap and have some oxidation now showing so its good to keep the new stock wheels out of that environment.

Anybody know the part number for sensors? Will these work even though they're listed for a Genesis Coupe?
