  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

As long as I have owned my Genesis, my wiper blades have made a loud noise while wiping. Appears that the blades do not flip over when the arms reverse, so they drag against the leading edge. I replaced the blades to no effect. My guess is that the arms apply too much pressure down onto the windshield, but I don't see how to adjust that pressure.

Thoughts? Or should I just stick with my motorcycle, which has no wipers at all?

Did you purchase the car new or pre-owned? Just wondering what changes may have been made since the car came from the factory without you knowing about it.

I would recommend you apply Rain-X to both your windshield and your wiper blades. Not the "2-in-1 Glass Cleaner with Rain Repellent" but the "Rain‑X Original Glass Water Repellent." It's a little bit of work to apply and wipe it off the first time, but subsequent applications get much easier.

If you need to clean your windshield after applying the Rain-X Water Repellant, then use the Ran-X 2-in-1 Glass Cleaner so you don't remove the Rain-X repellant with a harsh cleaner.

Mark,

I bought my car used. Have not noticed any mods on this car. O/W couldn't say

Funny you mention RainX. My wiper motor failed last month, replaced under a Hyundai extended warranty. I sprayed RainX Glass Water Repellant on the windshield so I could see while waiting for repair. Not on the wipers. I noticed no difference in the noise. While I will try the spray on the wipers too, still gotta wonder why the blades won't flip over. I replaced the blades at the dealer, so I'm not using some off brand. I will ask the dealer next week when I get a lube, but they don't seem to know much about this model here in the hinterlands.

Thanks for the suggestion. So far, no one else has replied. Which makes me think this is not a common problem.

It's a puzzle.

I have not had a problem with the blades re: noise. I do not use anything on the windshield but I do clean it thoroughly and I purchase oem hyundai wiper blades.

I don't recall anyone mentioning on this forum that their Genesis wiper blades were not flipping over. Since the dealer replaced your blades (if they really did that), have them figure out the problem and fix it.

BTW, I don't just spray the Rain-X on my rubber blades, but I wipe them clean with Rain-X also. Keeping the rubber clean and supple is key to longevity of any rubber part, especially if it gets a lot of sunlight.

My 2010 Genesis sedan always had the same noise issue w wiper blades. tried more expensive blades and same noise continued. A few months ago I had to change windshield due to cracks. Got third party PGW windshield and the noise is gone.

I doubt there is anything wrong with the OEM windshields. Perhaps some chemical was used on the windshield that was not adequately removed. I know that if one uses Rain-X (like the original poster), after it dries it must be wiped off really hard to get the excess residue off, otherwise those kind of problems can occur.

My own experience with windshield wiper blades is that the Hyundai OEM blades (expensive) work better and are quieter than aftermarket (Costco/Goodyear) blades. I live in OR and change blades yearly.
Also, consider windshield "wear". Wear is not much when driving is confined to city, but if you drive Interstates, etc a lot your windshield will gradually pit from road dirt. These pits do cause wiper drag. Suggest replacing windshield using your insurance company sources as it is much cheaper.

FWIW:

My advice on the Rain-X treatment is to use it sparingly - spray a spot a couple inches in diam. on each side of the windshield - and wipe vigorously.

Rain-X (at least the aerosol can variety) does prevent wiper chatter - but will smear the windshield with the wipers on if too much is used.
