Car needs to be turned off, hold the lever to the mist position for a few seconds and the wipers will go up to the service position.

Gimli, I am still having trouble getting it up (the wipers that is )

Have the car fully off (key in my pocket), hold the lever to mist for almost a minute - nothing. Does it matter what position the intermediate speed toggle is in ?

Anyone else have the same issue? I paranoid enough to thing I am missing something very obvious, but not sure what.

I just tested this out and it did not work for me either. However I did get it to work. I had my wipers set to auto. I turned on the car without starting the engine and turned the wipers on and then off. I shut down the car and move the wiper arm to the mist position and the wipers move up to the service position.

It may have to do with the wipers set to auto. I'm not sure, but I'll check my owners manual.

I had trouble at first but then I do it this way...Have engine on, then turn off. Raise and hold lever up and then pull towards you. It works for me every time now.

I had my first service visit this past week - oil change, etc. I had a couple of small warranty items to discuss with the dealership, one of which was the poor performance of the wiper blades after just two months. My first thought is that there was not enough tension in the arms, causing the streaking. They felt that was not the case so they are replacing the blades as a warranty item. Whew! So that will save me $60, but they will still put on these crummy OEM blades. It is correct that they have to be special ordered. My dealership did not have any replacement blades in stock for the Genesis.

Not sure how long wiper blades on the Genesis should last but I usually change the blades on all my cars every 6-8 months. Nothing worse than driving in the rain with crappy blades.

Winter Wiper Tip:

When parking for an extended period during snowfall, put the wipers in the OFF position (rather than in AUTO). When I got off the train last night and started scraping snow/ice off the windshield, AUTO kicked in/wipers went on. That's nice, but a blade was ice-stuck to the windshield and snapped off completely and on to the hood. Finished scraping and drove to the dealer about 5 miles away. Fortunately, the tech was able to slide it back onto the armature and snap it into place... only took him 5 minutes to figure it out. As the service writer said, "it's our first one".

So, no harm no foul. Though I wonder: do we have "breakaway" wipers that worked exactly as they should when frozen, or did I just get lucky nothing was broken?

After reading so much about the service position of the wipers, I decided to try it myself.

Pushed Start/Stop button to ACC. Then cycled button back to off. (Did not start engine).Pushed stalk up to Mist, and while still up there, pulled stalk back toward me.

Wiper went right up to service position. Don't really know if I had to do all that stuff with the Start/.Stop button. Next time, I will just try it without ever pushing the button.

Only question now is how do you remove the wipers from the wiper arm? (Don't need to do it yet, but someday, I will). I saw that I could squeeze the levers on each side of the blade, but blade stayed put and I was not about to put a lot of force on it. (Don't want to break anything).

No, you won't--unless you don't have an Advance Auto Parts store nearby. I went to one nearby today (in East Tennessee) as I had done a few minutes of research online and found they carry the Trico replacements for our Gennys. I went to the counter, told the fellow what I needed. Before I went in, I moved the blades to the service position, and while I was looking at a few other things in the store, the guy had the old ones off and the new ones installed in mere moments! It's a good thing, too, as it was only 18 degrees outside--not including the wind!! It literally took him about 90 seconds to replace the product--and it didn't cost any extra (it's a service they and most other auto parts places offer). Cost--about $40 for the pair. In stock, obviously.

As a side note, the same guy came back out to check out my ride...he said he'd never seen one yet, and in his words "it's hard to believe that's a Hyundai!!"

I love it when that happens!

So is $40 for the pair of Trico's what it costs for the whole blade assembly, or just the rubber wiper blade refill? If we get the Trico blade assembly, does that mean we can use Trico rubber refills after that?

It was the whole blade assembly. I don't know if refills only are available. They might be, but I didn't check. I might call back over there (or check online) to see if there are refills available. For some reason, I don't think regular stock refills will work, but I could be wrong, too.
