  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Wipers

I'm sure mine have never worked as the engineer intended - but manageable... sometimes they work great, sometimes not.

Other brands are the same. Had them on a couple of GM cars too. I like them, but mine have worked well.
Perhaps, but if you had to cope with snow and sleet instead of palm fronds I’d wager you wouldn’t care for it.

I live in CT for 40 years driving 25k a year. Still worked for me.

I really don’t see how the current Hyundai/Genesis Auto-wiper system could be rated adequate in snow or sleet.

If it was unsatisfactory in snow, just slip it to manual. Light snow melts, makes water, triggers a wipe. Conditions vary. Often wipers are not needed if the flakes and speed are just right. They just blow over.

Funny, though, I never had to make excuses for the “intermittent wipers”on any of my cars. They simply worked as intended, unlike the new and sophisticated rain-sensing wipers that are too often “asleep at the switch.”

It’s not like we’re asking for the return of tubes in tires, or typewriters and carbon paper. We just want wipers that are at least as good as the technology they have replaced.

Just use wiper fluid that melts ice and the wipers will work just fine, or as best as they do in the rain atleast.

I never realized there wasn't a delayed position for the wipers. Never drove car in the 🌧. That is kind of disappointing.
If the AUTO works properly it is better than delay. With delay, as conditions change you have to adjust. If you get splashed, you have to hit it for a manual wipe. With Auto, that just happens. Windshield is cleared from a big splash before you can reach for the control.

Thinking of a recent trip with about 35 hours of driving, I hit rain of various intensity from quick showers to longer periods. Never once did I touch the stalk. Without AUTO, probably would have had to turn on or adjust speed 30 or 40 times.

Mine work well. Evidently, others not so much.

Good point EdP! I have never driven the car in the rain so I am not sure if the Auto Setting works well or it does not. 🤷‍♂️ As always EdP thanks for your input and Quality advice!👍

Mine actually work the same or even slightly better in the snow. Just got to remember to clear the windshield when there is more then 2" or it will auto try to push it.

The other troubling problem with the rain-sensing wipers is that all too often they jump from the sensing speed into high speed unnecessarily. In other words, they jump from sensing speed into “frenetic” when they really should be going into the low constant speed.

If you really want intermittent mode instead of Auto mode, just unplug the sensor at the top of the windshield. Auto mode defaults to intermittent when there's a sensor error and the "sensitivity" toggle becomes an intermittent timer.

Did you do this, or are you simply speculating?

I’m not seeking a backyard remedy. I’m just pointing out the shortcomings of Hyundai’s current technology versus older tech that works well enough. Nobody ever complained that intermittent wipers don’t work.

If you do unplug sensor, will you get a warning light on the dash cluster?

If I knew what to unplug and I didn't get a warning on the cluster, I'd go do it immediately!

Agree with the RainX. It's a must-have with any vehicle. But based on the title of this thread, I just have to add this..
