  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

I’ve had my 2019 Genesis G70 3.3T car for over 3 years and an animal decided to chew on the wiring harness under the front bumper. It cost me $6,100 to repair at the dealer and insurance covered it. I’ve had it back for 10 hours and it happened again! I have a garage and keep the car in there with the door closed but went to a friends for dinner. The dealer is telling me that the same thing happened, even though I sprayed peppermint oil under and around.

I had this happen to my prior car, although it was only $1,500 in damage. I would suggest before having it fixed again trying to remove the rodents from the garage via traps and also try spraying that oil stuff on the underside of the vehicle. You may also want to make sure the rodents aren’t living in the car somewhere.

Thank you, I will pass this onto to the service mgr!

There are commercially available sprays that are specifically for this purpose. Like this: TOMCAT 14 oz. Repellents Rodent Repellent Continuous Spray 036830605 - The Home Depot Whatever you use, even if it is effective, you will need to reapply regularly.

I agree you would want to eliminate the rodents from staying in your home regardless. If they don't chew on your car, they are gonna chew on something else or do other damages.

I sprayed that engine compartment, trunk, wheel wells, under bumpers, etc, the day it happened!

Is this the peppermint oil described in post #1 above? Sounds like it's not at all effective.

The most effective way are traps (I use the d-CON 'no view; no touch' ones as a precaution, but so far no mice, thankfully). But most importantly, you need to take other steps as well: NO FOOD anywhere close to your garage, remove clutter from the floor, don't leave the door open, and adjust the door so no mice can get into (or out of) the garage thru the gaps. All of that should eliminate mice there without traps, but it's always good to have some, especially initially. On door adjustment, adjust the height to squeeze the gasket all the way to the floor, and adjust the rails so the door is barely touching the frame. When I close the garage in my house with the light off, I can't see crap, even when it's windy. That also helps to avoid dust. Good luck.
