I am not making any judgements. You yourself said “I had set it myself at 85 to see how it worked (and as a reminder to reign myself in if I was too "spirited" as a warning pops up on the Nav screen in car as well)“ You are a spirited driver that wants to be reminded when the go over 85. You wouldn’t have set it if it wasn’t likely to happen. If you just wanted to test it you certainly could have done so at say 65mph.
Wrong (and yet another reason why you should keep your judgements on what other people do to yourself).
You could only set the speed alert from a PC (not from the mobile app or a mobile browser). Therefore, to avoid having to go back and remember to reset it on the PC (which I likely would forget to do), I just set it at a much higher speed that I ever normally drive. That way I was able to:
- Test that it worked (so I did intentionally exceed 85 MPH to test it in both cars)
- Not worry about going back and resetting it on the PC
- Not be bothered by constant speed alerts if I had set is at 65 mph (as you suggested) as that is a pretty commonly achieved speed any time you are on a highway
- Get a reminder if, for some reason, I did drive that fast (very rare as much over 75 mph is a guaranteed ticket where I live)
