  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

I'm new but I have been reading this forum for years. I have a 2010 4.6 with 62,000 miles on it. Here's the issues I have had over 4 years of ownership.
Backup camera replaced
Windshield wiper goes off once and then stops without water on it (can't be duplicated at dealership)
Seat motors on driver side don't work consistently. replaced four times with no success and got a new seat assembly so it works perfect now
Drivers side mirror didn't fold down in reverse. Got that replaced.
Dome lights flicker. Got that replaced
Car started making tons of noise around the head unit. Actuator replaced
Car started making loud noise when I start it up. Actuator door replaced
Brake fluid replaced due to recall
Just had break failure on thanksgiving day and now I'm getting a new abs hydraulic module under my extended warranty thank goodness.

This car is awful electrically. I thought that my car would not light up at night around the ac buttons and in that area. I used to turn on the dome lights at night to change the ac or anything around it. I thought that's just the way the car was built. When the actuator was replaced, they must have plugged in the wire and now it lights up every time. Bizarre. The dealer didn't want to replace my actuator cause it was risky to take apart the whole head unit. I yelled at them on the phone and they fixed it. I got coolant and my power steering replaced and I drove it home and my car was running extremely hot. I brought it back and they said air got in there and they fixed it. The shield over my oil filter was missing screws and I got the idiot fired after I told hyundai. I took my car in another time and my leather steering wheel had a bad scratch on it. I take care of my cars with full synthetic oil and do all the necessary maintenace religiously as I keep my cars until they die. I'm going to be writing an email to hyundai of america cause this is unacceptable to have a car this bad. Do I get the award for worst genesis? By the way, I love the way it drives but I don't love having issues all the time.

I forgot to also say that my original wheels are dis colored somehow so those look like crap. I was and wax this car all the time and the got worn down somehow. It's out of warranty now and the dealership originally wanted $200 a wheel to fix it and then they went to $100 a wheel. I told them I'm not putting a dime more into this piece of crap.

that sounds really frustrating.. it really does. but everynow and then a car company will normally put out several lemons and it seems like you got one bud. I bought a 2001 Hyundai XG300 and it was bran spankin new but it was a lemon with all of the problems that youhad and more. went to VW and it was a lemon now I am back with Hyundai, a proud owner of 2011Equus Unltimate.
It happens to the best of us. Good luck in your next purchase.

Hey do you know what they replaced to fix the dome lights. My 2009 currently lights dim and I opened it to see if I can replace the light but I couldn't figure out how to take out the led bulb. My back seat right light and front left light are the ones that have the problem. They are almost always dim but when I tap the dome cover or give it pressure it will come become fully lit.

They replaced the whole dome light unit cause I would open my door and the dome lights would flicker.

Sorry to hear all of those issues. I've had some bad luck with my Genesis ownership experience (probably over 100 days out of service in the last 5 years). Current Sonata Eco and Santa Fe aren't giving us any issues though.

I would work with the dealership, your regional office, HMA HQ, and the BBB auto line if you continue to have issues. With that many repair attempts, you may qualify for relief (manufacturer buy back) under your state/federal lemon law (likely the latter, as it's been years), I would consult an attorney.

I own 2 Genesis - The 2011 4.6 and a 2014 R-Spec..... Both New and Both have been Flawless. It seems that there are a few Lemon Genesis that is not consistent with the Average Build.

I had a lot more problems with my 2007 Lexus GS350 and it was because of the reliability that I got a 2014...

The problem Genesis seem to be isolated to a few cars. If you get a Lemon it is bad news, but for the majority of posters here, the Genesis is as reliable as they come!

Thanks dimitry. I spent $1800 on an extended warranty and it's getting good use. I've had so many things replaced that the car may last a good amount of time now. Once out of warranty, there will have to be a decision made but until the then, hyundai can keep fixing my car. I've had every loaner possible it seems like. I've gotten to drive almost the whole fleet of hyundais. Cut-throat, you're a lucky man cause every time I have an issue, there's many on the forum that have the same issues. I'm getting my POS back tomorrow with a new abs hydraulic module so let's hope my wife and 10 month old have a safe car to ride in. Hopefully the brakes will brake this time.

I think that there are a lot of us owners that experience electrical gremlins with the car. My windows work erratically, twice even going down with the car off. No issues when at the dealership for a week. Sometimes the tilt wheel goes up like it is supposed to when the car is turned off, and many times it doesn't. I can't see the temp, or fan buttons either at night. Seats lose their memory all the time.
I've had an intermitten "lurch" from stop numerous times. The latest is that after installing 17in wheels on winter tires bought from Tire Rack that claims that these specific aftermarket 17 in wheels fit just fine, my traction control (ESC) light comes on whenever I accelerate. I've had the car from 25k to 40k now over 9 months, and i can't say that I'm thrillled with the purchase. Oh yeah, and the ride SUCKS on any surface other than a smooth superhighway.
Lemon? I don't think so. I think these issues are more the norm than the exception.
Oh well, I only have to drive it another 200k like my 4 past fords and lincolns before I can get something else.

No doubt this car has electrical gremlins AVM. I never trust a dealer and especially Hyundai to buy a used car over a couple thousand miles. The 150 point checks I think are bs. I love the way my car rides especially when I put some continental dws tires on a couple years ago. It's so quiet. The original Dunlop tires were garbage. I would think that we most likely bought this car cause it was 20-30 grand cheaper then the competition. My father used to say to me all the time that you get what you pay for. By the way, my loaner sonata wreaked from cigarettes and weed. I'm not so sure that would fly at BMW,Lexus, or Audi. I've sat in the new 2015 genesis and it's comfortable and beautiful and the reviews are great. It will be interesting to see what issues that car will have.

...you get what you pay for.
That is mostly true, but with other luxury brands, BMW especially, you are paying for the snob factor, which many don't want. And don't want to pay for.

Although I would like a dealership experience that sits in between Hyundai and Lexus. My wife has an RX350 and the treatment we get there is fantastic. The sticker on her car was only $10k more than the Genesis. But the RX is one of the cheaper Lexus models and everything goes up from there. With Hyundai, we have one of their high end models. Almost everything else goes down from there.

This is something that really amazes me. All (or at least most) of us that
had 1gs experienced many of these gremlins that were pervasive in the early years, yet as far as can tell, NONE have appeared in the 2gs. The times I thought I may have had a glitch were just times that I had done something wrong or the feature simply worked differently than I had expected, but I can't remember a single incident of a glitch or a gremlin in the 2g. It's amazing that there could be that much difference in just one generation.

i totally agree with you.
my 2011 had 53k problem free miles.
my friend's 2009 Genesis 3.8 has 100k problem free miles.

Just got my car back yesterday after receiving a brand new abs hydraulic module. Sounds like quite a big job as they needed to bleed the breaks and remove a headlight to get to the area. My extended warranty cost $1800 and the past two weeks, my repairs were $1000 over that. That's a good investment!!! I started driving and I just love the ride and the quietness. It's such a shame it's been such headache. The dealer provided me with the repair history and it's quite thick. I also tweeted to hyundaiusa so we'll see what happens if they respond to me. If not hma will be hearing from me.

I'm sure if you go on the BMW and Lexus forums, you'll find people crying about all the problems they've had with their cars. With all the cars that Hyundai makes, some of them have to be unlucky....I'm sure glad it's not mine..
PS I also paid extra so that everything is covered for 10 years. (I figure it'll take 15 years to get to 100,000 miles)
.

Cut-throat, you're a lucky man cause every time I have an issue, there's many on the forum that have the same issues.

Nope, I am not that Lucky. Based on the unscientific poll that is on this forum this week, you are in a very small minority. You got a Lemon. It Happens!

Thanks for making a poll cut-throat. I love the car but I guess I got a bad apple.
