  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Worth it?

So - I'm in love with the color blue, and this color blue is my absolute favorite!

I'm thinking about painting my whole car this color and modifying some of the car to match more sporty look such as chrome around windows into shadow, etc.

What are your opinions on this? I know it's going to cost about 4K or so (not sure if more since my car is black). I'm going to get a quote for the hell of it and see.

Something like that wouldn't work for me. I wouldn't be able to enjoy it knowing what it cost.

It's a pretty color though.

If you like it go for it! i like that bloody color aswell!! :) should be around 4-6K....just remember when it comes about painting your car you can't go cheap....just saying!

To paint it correctly a lot of dis-assembly should be done. The hood, all doors and trunk deck should be removed along with all interior trim (weather stripping and panels) on doors and arround cabin. The trunk liner should also come out and the bumpers should be off and also exterior lights, trim and etc. I think you get what I mean. Cost will be 8000.00 to 10,000.00 for sanding, sealing, primer, base, mid-coat, and clear then wet sand and buff. I have restored several cars and it is not an easy or cheap undertaking. I forgot , in order to repaint the engine compartment the engne and transmission and everything else in the engine compartment must be removed.

Love that blue also...please let us know what you find out on the cost for it. Keep in mind that by doing this if you ever decide to sell it would have to be done privately, I'd think that the resale value would be decreased significantly trying to sell/trade it in at a dealership.

I am assuming that this has something to do with the botched detailing that messed up the factory paint on your brand new car.

The more money you spend on your current car, the less money you will have to purchase a new one several years down the road.

This is true, but if you plan on keeping it then do what makes you happy. I like the color but if I'm putting 7-10k+ into the vehicle it would be in other options beyond the paint. :)

Agreed! My father restores cars and I've repainted two of my own with him when I was in high school, one was pictured in Car Craft magazine.

On top of the cost it will likely reduce your resale value, or at the very least you won't get back any of the money you invested, unless you find someone who really wants your car.

I think it would look good on a 3-series or Genesis Coupe, but not on a large car like Genesis Sedan or 7-Series.

You are not 22.

Hi guys,

It's still pending (currently in the works of getting my car detailed to fix the disaster that previous detailers left behind).

However I'm not sure if I am going to do the paint job as in the next few months I may be considering getting that 2013 BMW 335 with the M Sport Package and the lovely blue like in that picture (comes with the m sport package), if I like the test drive. So I am going to cancel the repainting at this time until I make a decision :)

Thanks everyone for your feedback.

If a previous detailer messed it up then they are responsibles for getting your car back to like new. This kind of problem is what small claims court is for, or get a lawyer.

TO properly 'change the color' of an already built car is generally more work than it's worth (having been there, done that). To do it properly you basically HAVE to strip the car to paint everything from the door jambs, inside the hood and engine area, trunk, trunk lid...it's time consuming and a bear to get right. If the color match is close, not so bad but if you are drastically changing colors, well, I've been down that road a couple of times in my past and won't go there again....but if you have the inclination, talent, time and money, go for it.

but the big thing will be resale.....first question from a savvy buyer will be "why is the car's color totally changed"....they might thing you are hiding anything from collision damage to storm damage.....but such is life.

:p

If you are going to get a brand new BMW, look into their european delivery program, I've read about it and it sounds awesome.
They have a shitty program for canadian residents so I didn't look into it that far
But good luck with your decision

from my previous experiences, colors like that you get sick of real fast, i would only do bright red/blue/etc for summer car's, for daily cars, i stick to the usual black/white or silver colors.
