  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

I have a 2010 3.8 sedan over 230k (love it) and have been looking for a used second gen model.

I know local mechanic that fixed the head gasket on a 2015 5.0 for a customer and job was never paid for.

Car has fuel injector #3 failure and slick oil leak. Doesn’t have time to fix, so he offered to sell me the car sub $6,000.

120k miles clean carfax and title.

Worth buying? Seriously considering. But don’t know that much about 5.0 engine.

I also don’t mind a fixer-upper…

So he fixed the head gasket but it still has injector problem and oil leak? Sounds questionable to me.

Price may be good but what else may be wrong/neglected?

If you are confident you can fix it yourself, offer half that.

I’ll walk him down on price. Will also call hyundai in the morning to ask about prior maintenance.

Assuming driver actually used Hyundai for service.

I still wouldn't do it since there are so many other better maintained version out there.

If you are dead set on getting it, I'd pay for Carfax at least. A lot more shops report to them now so it would show work done etc.

I have a 2015 5.0 with 114K miles. It is black, with the Tech package. Are you interested in a car like this? I am located in the Southeast US.

Issues/Problems with it: a TPMS sensor is bad, which I'm getting replaced. It also needs new tires, which I'm also getting. Probably Michelins. There's also a problem with the blend door actuator, which I'm also getting repaired. The backup camera also does not work.
Everything else works. It is wicked fast compared to the DH2 3.8s. I am also getting the transmission fluid drain and fill and will do the plugs and coolant myself when it gets cooler.

Not dead set. I’ve seen the carfax. Majority for work was done at a local hyundai.

Just wondering what happened to the head gasket. Between the last visit and now.

But thanks for the advice

I checked Carfax. A good deal of the maintenance was done at a local Hyundai dealership. Just trying to figure out what happened between the last visit and the head gasket.

Seems like the second owner didnt change oil for a long time.

Im not dead set, but interested.

Message me the price and location if you can.

How much does the 5.0 cost to full up these days? Was also looking for a 3.6 as an attempt to be more economical, but it seems to be a $12 difference to fill which doesn't bother me.

my 2010 6 cylinder is right under $50
