  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Would you buy the GV80 again?

My wife is in the market for a new car and has her eye on the GV80 2.5 advanced. I came across the reviews on edmunds and the reviews do not look encouraging. I know that some reviews tend to reflect a higher percentage of disgruntled owners who may be having problems with their car. So, I thought I would teach out on a forum to see what a different demographic of owners would say. So, especially for the owners of more recent model year gv80's, how has your ownership experience been, and would you buy the Gv80 again? Thank you in advance for any input you may have!

I've had a 2019 G80 3.3 Sport and currently have a 2021 GV80 3.5T Prestige. Both have been very reliable, dependable and stable vehicles requiring no notable servicing. Between those 2 cars I've accumulated >130K miles to date and I'm currently waiting the arrival of a 2025 GV80 Coupe.

Just purchased a 2025 that I traded my 2021 for.
I was very pleased with the 2021. It never went in the shop for anything except maintenance. It had no quirks or gremlins. I've had 6 Genesis cars in all including now 2 GV80s. If you enjoy a luxurious quiet ride Isolated from the world, it's the right car for you. Mind you it's not a sport-oriented car in any way but it doesn't try to be. If that's what you're looking for look elsewhere.

I have a 2023 GV80 and love it. No issues as of yet for the first 2 years of ownership.

I have a 21 and the only problem was with a window regulator. I have a great dealer so my experience has been great. But you need to find out how your dealer's service department is. Some are real bad and backed up. You should let us know where you are and the dealer you are looking at so we can provide feedback on them. When my window broke I drove up to the dealer the next day and they gave me a loaner, ordered the part and I had my car back in a few days. Others, with different dealers, not so lucky.
Would I buy again. Yes, and I probably will when the 5 year part of the warranty is up. The only thing that would make me think twice is if I did not have a good dealer for service.

What Jhon says is very true. I had a great service dealer since 2011. Just recently they gave up their Genesis support because Genesis wanted them to make a separate building exclusively for Genesis. Now I have to drive to Jersey. A 45-minute drive and valet service is not available because of the distance. Hopefully I won't be driving there too often. They are backed up for a month. So, check service availability.

Our 2023 GV80 Advanced 3.5 has been flawless. Best highway car I've owned in over 40 years of driving. HDA/HDA2 works great. Acceleration is effortless, gas mileage is mediocre. The 2.5 gets better mileage, based on reports here. Dealership experience has been uniformly positive, never any issues with our regular service appointments. Always a Genesis loaner ready for us.

I had a 2022 GV80 3.5 Prestige, absolutely loved the car but had multiple differential failures and eventually did a buyback.
I also understand all car makers go through issues when introducing new cars.
I'm waiting for the 2025's to hit dealers and would like to see the Coupe in person.
Very much would buy another but just being cautious to see if the kinks get worked out soon.

My Wife's average over the years, and this includes the full gamut of brands, types, and she has never purchased the same model twice, is 18 months or less between cars/trucks/SUV's. She is coming up on 18 months and while I have a few things about the GV80 that irritate me she still claims it is by far her favorite car of late. Usually she is shopping new models and visiting dealer by now then a new vehicle just shows up in the garage one day but nothing. I always joke that she trades when she need windshield wipers but that sadly has a lot of truth in it.

..........

Have a 21 Advanced 3.5, just turned 30k, and other than a headlight assembly replacement done under warranty (water intrusion), the car has been generally flawless. We do a lot of road trips in the west, typical is around 3k miles with elevation changes from sea level to over 10k feet and the GV has handled it all superbly. Love the GV, comfortable, easy to drive, descent fuel mileage (we have been averaging 23 on our trips). Only issue we have is the dealer service which has been steadily moving south away from us and now is 106 miles one away which is a real PITA due to horrendous traffic. Would we buy another one....likely, although we have been considering a new Lexus GX.

I have the 21 Prestige 3.5 and while I would absolutely buy another one I don't think I will need to. I don't drive much as I work from home and have since 1984. So my car has low low miles on it. The 3-1/2 year old car has only 6800 +/- on it at this time. The guys that do the maintenance at Genesis are just amazed at the mileage. We have another car that we drive most of the time. This one only really goes on a once a month long trip and a few close by places. But it's not a round the town car for me typically. I'll most likely keep this one for the 10 years (since I got the extended warranty) unless something happens in future models that I just cannot live without. But in the last 22 years I've put less than 50,000 miles on my 3 cars in total.

I'd suggest that my experience with my initial 2022 GV80 was the opposite of what most have had - specifically I've had an amazing dealership, a lousy vehicle and nearly impossible dealings with Genesis corporate. Long story short, my vehicle was in warranty repair nearly 20 times in 24 months. Tried to do buy back thru Genesis corporate, very unpleasant to deal with and went nowhere. Ultimately the dealership stood on my behalf and created a way-more-than-fair opportunity to get out of the '22 for a new '24 which, so far, has been the dream vehicle I had hoped the '22 would be.

I understand that any vehicle has the potential to be a lemon - and likely that will not be your experience. That said, having a stunningly good dealership makes all the difference. Do your research carefully and best of luck.

I own a 2021 gv80 3.5t purchased in December 2020. I have 46k miles on it now. My only issues were the 2 service recalls for seat belt device and the other thing which I forgot what that was for and the rear power sunshade got slightly out of alignment. I used the valet option for service once, it was excellent. I bought it at a joint Hyundai, Genesis, toyota dealership. For 2021 routine maintenance there was a 2 week wait. For 2022 and later the wait has been a few days. The service is good. A quality vehicle, loads of technology, so so gas mileage, but you know that going in and I beat the sticker numbers. I still get head turns and compliments to this day. It's nice driving a beautiful vehicle that you don't see very many of on the road.

If only the consigner service was as they advertise and the service locations upscale and great as their car.

That is dealer dependent. Mine does fine although their building is old and waiting to be updated. Currently still with Hyundia.

Yes, this is dealer specific. Mine is great. They take care of me very well. I did buy my vehicle at my local dealership so I had that connection to them from day 1. I wonder if some dealerships doing Covid were overwhelmed in the beginning with so many buying from all over the United States and then showing up at their local dealer with the car that the dealership had no idea was living in their area. I think this was the first time that people would go anywhere to get a car so the dealerships got bombarded with cars that would have other times been serviced by the place it was purchased from. It's hard for them to have enough techs when they sell 100 of these cars and 300 show up or oil changes (just picking numbers out of my hat). But maybe that's why some people get great service and some have had less than great.
