Wow! This is a HYUNDAI?!?

So today at work, a friend of mine loaned me his SUV so I could move a couple of things for an hour or two. He needed to go to a meeting, so I gave him the keys to my R-Spec and off he went. Later, back in the office, he asked me what kind of car it was (I have full wings, even the KDM airbag). I told him it was a Hyundai. He said "WHAT?!? - There is no way that is a Hyundai!" He went on to tell me how nice the car was and how fast it was. He could not believe it. I said that I believed Hyundai targeted the 5 Series BMW with it. He said "I have driven the 5 Series and unless it is an M5, that Hyundai will kick its ass". lol.

I just thought I would share this story from today. He couldn't believe it. I told him that this was the "old" version and there is a new model out now. lol.

Great story. Maybe we'll find this guy here amongst us in the not too distant future. Yes, the second generation is slower. Not crazy about that fact. Nor the fact that the stereo system isn't as good as the first generation. Still, it's an awesome looking car inside and out - and very luxurious. It's such a smooth rolling and quiet car. I love it...

A week ago I got my car washed and when I came back I told them I drove the black genesis and the guy came back a few times and eventually said I did not know that was a Hyundai! I thought it was a Mercedes!!!

To those who have driven the 2nd gen, how much quieter is the cabin and how much smoother is the ride? Any real difference?

I had some clown in a turbo Audi with loud exhaust pull up to me in my Rspec Friday night. He had exhaust on it and threw a rev when he pulled next to me at the light. I looked over and he gave me a nod so I rolled down the window. He asked "is that thing fast" I replied "its quick." Then I said "just keep in mind when you see the tail lights pulling away from you that you just got smoked by a Hyundia!" It wasn't even close. The Rspec smoked that Audi.

Yes they are slower...

I really wish Hyundai avoided piling on the pounds with the second gen. Thankfully, and perhaps agree or disagree with this, but it isn't ridiculously slower. I will say the '15 sounds better judging from the ones that I have driven.

I went to Car&Driver to see what their test results were showing and surprisingly, the '15 is actually quicker...take it for what it is worth however.

Attended an out of state sales meeting last week. My 2013 was parked in the hotel parking lot. I have personalized license plates that denote the industry I work in. One of the other reps came to me at breakfast and asked if I was driving the $70k Bimmer that he saw in the parking lot. I laughed my ass off and told him Yeah.

All I know is this:

My 2015 V8 will easily do the advertised o-60 in 5 secs. but so very quietly, you don't even notice it.

And, so far as I know, it has had zero problems except the tire and tail light recalls.

In fact - I'm thinking about starting a "Who's Had Zero Defects/Problems" thread -- there's a thread for everything else.

At abt. 4600 lbs. it is undoubtedly a heavy car, but I like that too.

I have driven the new 2nd gen and i own a fully loaded 2012 first gen, the old one feels much smoother than the new one and about quietness there is no much difference, the new one is abit quiter but if u apply some sound deadener to old one (like i did) your genesis will be way more quiter than the new gen.

Heavy is good for a big car... You'll be thankful if you ever get into a serious accident the Genny should get you through it just fine. There's direct correlation to heavier cars lowering traffic fatality rates.

I was rear ended once by a drunk driver moving fast. When I came to, the front bench seat was totally flat and the trunk was where the back seat used to be.

Driving a big Buick & wearing shoulder belts did the job. I'm still here.
