  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Since I bought a used Genesis I would like to know what the steps were for the people who bought new from a dealer in regards to the XM subscription.

Do they take your name, phone, address and whatever else to set up an acct in your name or did the system just come installed and on when you got the car?

For some reason, I am only getting about half of the channels and think I need to call XM to have them send a refresh signal. I'm wondering if I need to get in contact with the original owner because I think XM will ask me for account name and number and all that jazz.

XM has a DIY refresh signal from their website but it hasn't worked yet. I think a phone call is in order.

If anyone could let me know that would be great.

PS - The XM radio has worked perfectly for the last 4 months. The Genesis I have came with a free 1yr subscription...

At the end of 3 months after purchase I received a call from XM with a question whether I wanted to renew the service. I agreed to a 3 year contract including all stations and traffic undate. I have two other cars and a home system and each has a contract.

The dealer would have provided the original owner's information to XM for marketing purposes. The radio was activated before I drove off the lot, and the 1 year (3 months for all 2010's and non-Tech 2009's) is pre-paid by HMA as a trial, so XM really doesn't care.

XM just cares about the unit's radio ID. You can call them and tell them that you are the second owner.

But before you call, you should confirm that the category filter hasn't changed or reset. XM > Settings > XM Radio > Category Filter > All.

The original subscription for the Genesis was XM with the best of Sirrus and real time Traffic for 1 year with 09 Genesis Tech. I suspect that you are now only paying for getting XM only. 10 Genesis received 3 months of mention above service.

This may explain why you are only getting x% of the stations.

I renewed with XM and best of Sirrus without Real Time Traffic for under little over $9 per month for the next year

Good Luck

Thanks for the responses. The best of Sirius only give you Stern, MLB and a couple other talk shows. The music channels are all the same. I am missing almost half the music channels and some talk as well. Its really weird... I think I need a refresh... I'll try my luck tomorrow... I'll let everyone know what happens...
