  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

I'm coming up on my XM activation and would like input from those with the NavWeather subscription (I'm assuming we can get it, although XM's website is out of date and doesn't indicate as such).

Is it worth it? I've heard that NavTraffic isn't much help, in terms of not providing real-time info. Dose NavWeather have the same problem?

Im guessing that NavWeather isn't any better than our local weatherman and he isn't much help either.

I assume this is an option available on the newer version Genesis? Certainly not on my loaded '09.

To answer your question, my wife has NavWeather on her Lexus and she says it is useless. The few times she has gotten warnings/alerts, they have been after the fact. After she has either driven through the weather, or the weather has passed. Even with this said, I can't get her to cancel the subscription! She likes bells and whistles! I was able to get XM to lower the price as I told them it was useless. Worth a shot if you want to keep it.

Moose, I've got a 2011 3.8 w/ Premium/Nav. XM says the weather is a live overlay to the Nav map. I would think that if it's weather radar, it would be real time; but I'm getting the sense from your wife's experience that they're updating a data base (like they do with NavTraffic). If that's the case, it won't be very helpful.

I think you are spot on. As I have never observed what the NavWeather does in her car, I can't speak with intelligence about what happens when there is an alert. Based on her comments, it can storm and be done before she sees the alert in her car. Useless in my opinion. But yet again, another gadget that may be worth the added cost. Once they figure out how to get it closer to real time.

I have weather on three of my Gamin GPS's but then again I'm a pilot and use it constantly. It runs about $700 a year and I think would be worthless in a car as the car does not move fast enough and -- you're already on the ground if you should have an emergency. I have two apps on my I-phone that will give me real time weather, at least in regards to rains/storms. If you worry about sudden tornados, your radio would be your best bet for an alert.

Flyboy, the answer was right under my nose... I've got the same app on my phone. I'm just really looking for realtime radar, which the app provides. So XM can stay music and sports for me. Thanks for pointing that out.
